I'm not one to write about these sorts of things and isn't my first bad experience on the exchange, but this one just touched all my buttons and I'll add pictures. Knife was improperly listed in terms of blade steel, just copied and pasted from the designers site, but the site he bought the knife from originally has it listed entirely different. I was looking for 01 and got 1095. The knife also arrived with a bent tip, and while the seller swears it wasn't like that when he got it, which is fair enough, look at how it was packaged. I've always received things from others in at least a box and filled out well with protection. That's just respectful to your buyer especially after spending 180+. It is frustrating as I learned more about this knife in one day asking a few questions then he did as the guy buying the custom. All of the info even on the proper website he purchased it from originally. Not much to do. I wanted to buy a different knife (a GNS) and would have gotten my moneys worth but hindsight is 20/20 as they say. the blade is also scratched up, but hey that I don't care about because I plan on using this thing, but an incorrect listing and packaging that looks like it turned out to be harmful to the knife itself just sucks. I'm not saying he's a bad guy as his communication with things was good and he seemed pleasant until I brought all this up (but people do get defensive when put on the spot so not unexpected), but he just didn't have the right information and that packaging job is offensive, especially when it damages the knife and at that price range. I just hope in future he has the right info and packages things properly so that they don't get received damaged. All things considered I like the knife, it's a diving sparrow saker, I'm just frustrated by having wanted to buy a knife in 01 and not getting that (again knowing how much was spent) and then receiving a knife with damage that I have to fix especially when the knife was supposedly untouched. Maybe I'm overreacting. I don't think so. But that's my rant on the subject.

Pics below, I don't have the best camera on my phone so forgive the shitty quality but you can still see it:

This is how thin that bubble mailer is (about half a centimeter) and the knife was in its leather sheath. So there was give on that packaging at all time during shipping. No rigidity at all except for the steel of the knife itself.

Packaging again!!!!!!

I just don't get it, this is NOT rocket science.

Might as well just shipped it in a ball of tissues......................................

Fourboysplus has a very bad reputation on here and on other sites. He is at best shady, at worst a scammer. He's been banned for multiple accounts, changed his user name etc.

This is the original thread when I first started collecting knives where he tried to take advantage of me:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-will-not-take-it-back?highlight=fourboysplus

you can do other searches as well:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-all-the-Flakes-lately?highlight=fourboysplus

googling chad mullins or fourboysplus will show a lot. People were trying to defend him, but how many times has he tried to pull this. Just look at what others have posted about him.

He starts out nice and shows his true colors. This is too many times for a guy like him to keep trying to take advantage of the community.

Thanks to the member who forward this to me. 2 years later and he is the only person I have ever had an issue buying/trading from on bladeforums.

This is a pattern of behavior.

This guy needs too be BANNED
I just dont get the process behind packaging
"""COMMON SENSE"""
Oh---Common Sense we are talking about...
Not Readily handed out..
This guys name keeps coming up..
People that dont know about his past continue to
buy from him..Some go ok and some dont...
I FEEL...The Moderators need to step in and get this
person banned for good.
I for 1..am getting a bit fed up with seeing his name come up
with a failing grade in good dealings..
Its not bad enough..WE come in here..and BUILD..YES BUILD a STELLAR rep and --
Its folks like this ^%$# that make people that are just coming around..
FEARFUL..of the 97% OF THE OUTSTANDING folks
buying and trading everyday...
THIS is my home away from home..I unwind and come to my family in BF..
We need to get rid of the Scammers-Thieves.....ASAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, it seems I should do a little more research on who I am buying from next time. No return or refund was offered, but I don't want one. Though he mentioned one and laughed it off like I was fishing for problems. I am frustrated though, who wouldn't be? I like the knife like I said, it just came beaten up and was not what I paid for. I paid for a knife in 01 steel that was in like new shape because he had never used it. Upon further inspection there are also two small chips on the blade. I can fix it, just need to work at it, but like I said you spend 180+ on a knife and you expect it to be in good shape and it to be shipped to you properly if that's what you are told will happen. I didn't want a project or a fixer, I wanted the knife in the condition I was told it was in. could have bought my GNS new and had no problems. End of the day I will keep it and work it to get it into shape but it's a pain and time I don't have much of these days. I just don't want him to take advantage of people by misleading them in future. He also tried to say how bad the initial worksmanship on the knife was, which as a buyer doesn't make me feel better if he felt the knife was crap in construction to begin with but sells it as a great knife. Basically getting a knife and the guy saying, "Yeah, it sucks right?" It's a hand made knife so I expected little imperfections and things, and Abe's work is great I think knowing that he's a one man show and does everything by hand. I'm proud to now own a diving Sparrow knife as a Canadian. But this blade was poorly packaged and again did not have the right info attached to it. At least be honest about it. I don't know him personally so I won't judge him as a person, but I just hope he does things better in future in terms of the points I have already made.

Yeah, it is never good when I immediately recognize a screen name on a "BAD" thread. Research is your friend.

I just dont get the folks coming in here and """NOT taking a few minutes AND DOING A BIT OF RESEARCH""
Contact a member in good standings..Look too see if the the seller-trade party has a good reputation in here.
As I stated before...Many times...Just because the person you might intend too deal with has a decent rep..
Ask that person for references..FOLKS that they have dealt with in the past.
Search their Name in here.
Red flags go up if they dodge a reference.
MOVE along and cut your loses.
I have great friends in here and I have folks that wont deal with me and visa versa--I cant make everyone happy..
ONE thing I do..Do my home work...ASK lots of questions with a NEW COMER or someone I have never dealt with..
NEVER pay with ""GIFT"" I cant say I havent done it with folks I have had dozens of dealings with and the other way..
Bottom line..STICK with the winners.. You spend 1 hour on here and look around you see the folks
you can can easily deal with ..with no reservations and also folks you can reach out to.
The moderators are outstanding people too reach out to ..to inquire and ask questions..
The are the unselfish--BACK BONE of BF---
It really sucks to see the SAME folks names come up..
This guy has too go........:thumbdn:

I thought the very same thing...FOURBOYSPLUS: "on no, here we go again!"

Thank you very much, for your continued due diligence, Mike. He changed his user name, however, even with a fresh start, he still can't seem to resist screwing the honest member's who cross paths with him. What we need here on BF, is an authority figure like that Warden on, "Cool Hand Luke": ;)

FWIW: I really thought this guy deserved to be banned, for a couple of the past incidents that he was involved in. Sorry that you had to deal with this guy, OP. I must commend you however, on your very positive outlook, regarding this negative experience. Perspective is a very valuable core value to have, eh? ;)

Thank you very much, for sharing this experience.

speaking from the point of having been banned, I just shake my head, know what I did not do and yet my rep on site and a search of my user name suggest I am scum. this is on direct point, it's evidently ok to lie and cheat, and rob money and not complete deals involving money. But it's not ok to break UNWRITTEN rules, that no one knows about, without warning. I see this daily on site, as well as Bumping in exchange threads and members posting questions and offering trades or less money, all according to rules = Banning. I would like to see all the lies posted of me removed. It affects my income and standing.

No, they're not automatic banning. Anyway, we don't like to ban too easily or too quickly. Sometimes we even keep a scammer around until we get him to make restitution.

I do agree with you HappyDaddy that scammers have no place here and action needs to be taken accordingly.

If you do it immediately they may be less inclined to right their wrongs and take the money and run.

Also, I don't mean to speak for Esav, but I took his post as a response to the quote in that minor broken rules do not equal banishment. That's why there is a warning and infraction system in place. The ban hammer is reserved for the worst of the worst.

If folks didn't ask questions or make offers the Exchange would go barren. Ok, maybe not barren. It's just the nature of the beast when you have so many different sellers who all have their ads formatted differently.

Questions in the thread I personally don't have a problem with as that usually means pertinent information of the item was left out and could benefit other interested parties.
Trades or monetary offers should be private and sent through email or PM.

OP, what was sent to you was unacceptable on all fronts. Described inaccurately and poorly packaged. Sorry this happened to you but thanks for the heads up. I hope the knife treats you well!

1-As mentioned Diving Saprrows Website ONLY states the knife comes in 01, I 100% believed this knife to be 01 steel!!!
Also in the makers write up he does NOT state any other steel. (See below pic)

2-I was unaware of the tip being bent. I never noticed it or it wasn't there prior to shipping. I cannot say anything else regarding the tip other than the above mentioned.

3-Buyer did not request a full refund!!! Seems odd that he wouldn't if he was so upset??!!?? This point is KEY imo!!!!

4-I asked the buyer if he wanted a discount or similar and his response was "NO"

5-The knife was in its leather sheath then wrapped in a bubble envelope followed by everything being placed inside a second bubble envelope.

It is good to see Fourboysplus chime in and stand his ground. Most of the time the accused run and hide.

1. You may have believed it was 01 but it was not. Monetary restitution for your screw up is the answer.
2. It is likely the tip wasn't bent prior to shipping, instead happened in transit. A direct result of your crappy packaging. Again you owe monetary restitution.
3. Buyer shouldn't have to "request" a full refund, you should have offered it or a partial refund. After all, you are the one who misrepresented the item and you are the one not smart enough to package a sharp metal object appropriately!
4. Ask if they want a full refund. They said no. Give a partial refund automatically - it is your reputation, or what's left of it.
There are many others here who trade, buy and sell regularly. Search their names and you don't get a page of GBU threads.
You might have had ground to stand on if this was an isolated incident. That is not the case. Don't force the mods to bring down the hammer. Move along on your own accord and get some lessons in common sense packaging.
Thanks!
