Bad Feeling!

Close friends of mine either think that it will never happen here, to them, or it will happen to someone else if at all. Worst case, they say: that they "will worry about it when it happens"...

I'm afraid that's the attitude of most, but what'cha going to do when you cannot go to the restaurant or store... or you have no electricity to keep the food that you do have from spoiling?

I say hope for the best prepare for the worst, and live each day to the fullest.

I didn't say it won't happen.
The question is "Will it happen to you?"

I grew up with "Duck & Cover"...the nuclear menace.
I live in NYC.
There won't be any "Bugging out" One can't get out of the city on a nice summer Friday afternoon.

Once again, no right or wrong answer, different answers for different situations.

But through all of the manmade and natural disasters...someone has survived.
At least enough survivors to make more of us.

haha just the other day there was two guy who talk to me asking me if i believe in God cuz they saying that the end might is near because of 911, SARS, bird flu and the war and terriorst bombing... hai i really got nothing to say to them...

I think that in general, people get crazy around fall, freaking out that summers over, now it's time to pack it in, football season, securing the lawn orniments before halloween, school and elections. For some reason everybody is in a panic but for the wrong reasons. (today they are doing disaster training for the first responders over here)

But yeah things do feel funky and not in the good funky way either.

I'm a former Manhattanite myself. I read a very interesting article recently that opined that certain large cities, such as NYC and Chicago, would actually be good places to be if it all goes down, assuming they are not nuked. I'll see if I can find it for you. The basis was that there will be plentiful supplies and shelter for those who are strong enough, cunning enough, and willing enough to take them and protect them. I always felt I had a good plan when I lived in NYC, but I also had the unfair advantage of being a LEO with plentiful firearms and ammuntion.

Some people still have not learned that if they do not have anything constructive to add, to keep quite, lest they look like uneducated, ill-informed jerks...

just an observation :jerkit:

Provisions abound Gonzo.
In my situation, cash might be higer on the need list than fire starting equipment.

What constructive addition could anyone make without being rude and/or sarcastic? The most anyone has been able to demonstrate is a "bad feeling", with little to back it up. The most constructive thing to say would be "I feel bad, too", which doesn't really add much, either.

The city may not be such a bad place with some preperation.

With all the basement rooms, tunnels, supplies, and native wild life, it would be very possable to ride out a bad scene in a city. I recall the two Japanese women who hid out in a high rise hotel in New Orleans for days after Katrina. They raided the vending machines, baracaded themselves in thier room, kept out of sight. They only came out when they saw a news crew in the street filming. They were in good shape.

Think of all the free pidgeon meals on the rooftops of office and apartment buildings. Broiled or roast breast of pidgeon taste just like chicken! A good airgun will feed you well in the city. And then theres squirrel stew. Lots of parks=lots of squirrels.

With everyone leaving the city think of all the abondoned stuff to scavange. And everyone will be trying the usual ways out, like roads. How many cities are on a lake, river, ocean? Like New York, St.Louis, Chicago, Washington D.C. There is going to be some abandoned boats at the marina's someplace. Canoes, kayaks, rowboats, small sailboats can all be used.

One could stay behind and wait till the rush has died down, gathering materials, planning well. I imagine New York is alot like my home town of Washington D.C.. Its surounded by water. Most people look at water as a barrier. Look at it as a friend, and means of transport.

it's global warming.....no, global cooling....ummmm...cows farting?

darn, what the heck is it this week?

If ya can support your family for about a week or so, you are doing well.

we should always be prepared as best as we can be and try to keep the paranoia levels in check.

and remember, keep yer grubby mitts offa my stash, ya hear!:)

** the above is meant in jest, I fully agree in being prepared, gents!;)

No, I think what you mean to say is: 'Why should you be prepared should the need arise for you to be self-reliant... After all someone will come bail your butt out'.
