Bad information sometimes given on forums

Here's one of those expert opinions that you hope nobody will give any credibility.

My personal advice is to just not buy CS, the stuff strikes me as cheap junk made by anal people who charge WAAAY too much for it.
-Y.C.

What do you think he means by, "Strikes Me"? How many CS products do you think he's owned or tested or even handled? Still he's ready to trash a companys name here. Would anyone go to this guy for his personal advice on any subject?

Yeah Brian, he GOT me!!!!!:o :o I was starting to BREAK LEATHER and planning to light him up and not only ROCK him, but RATTLE him:D :D I just re-read EVERYTHING and my "thin-skin-itis", which has been VERY thin this week showed thru AGAIN:(
I apologize Bad Blade, this could have been serious. I had you lined up in my sights. I do on occassion carry a Fisher Price model 678787878 .357 RATTLER Magnum, one heck of a noisemaker. Do not worry however, it is a very Unmanly, sheeple type weapon........
Knife content: Bad info on the forums is as prevelant as good. You just have to learn how to read between the lines......wolf
Thanks Brian, NEWBIE-ostomy-goolee-eyetis, but now well medicated:D

Wolfmann, I have been resisting giving you some friendly advice, but your most recent 'misunderstanding' simply underscores how much you need to learn.

My advice:

Think before you Post
Concentrate on making quality posts
Never use a smiley again ;)
Never use the caps button unless you are at the beginning of a sentence
Never take anyone too seriously, especially me

You are a knife knut, obviously one of us. But sometimes your posts are over-eager and somewhat annoying.

This is a thread about bad information on this forum. Most of the experienced folks know who makes sense, who is joking, who knows their stuff, and who is full of crap. You do not have enough experience to make these sometimes subtle discriminations. So, PLEASE, slow down a little.

I hope you take this post as a friendly gesture.

Well, my mama (don't you love posts that begin this way?) always taught me to ask everybody's opinion, listen politely, and then make up your own mind. Words to live by. I've used these boards extensively for learning about the latest knives, but I don't read them as gospel.

Richard points out that people sometimes get bad advice. Nice to see that he has a solid grasp on the obvious. Of course the advice is sometimes misleading. This board has folks from all manner of backgrounds, education levels, ages, and economic standing. There are a few experts here, I'd imagine, but their opinions are still going to have a subjective taint. You can't escape it.

Most often, people are going to recommend a knife they own and like. Why? They want justification and acceptance within a group, and they want that group to expand. It's human nature. So we have the Sebenza camp. And the Spyderco camp. And the Benchmade camp. And so on and so on...

When I ask questions, responses vary. Still, I (and I think most of us here) am intelligent and skeptical enough to recognize consensus. If I ask if a particular knife is a good skinner, and 10 or 12 people chime in to say yes, then that knife is at least going to get a little more of my attention. I'll of course do my homework, search websites, look for reviews, read as much as I can, and try to handle the knife before I shell out any cash. What I'm saying is that BF ought is a good place to start asking for advice. It isn't some Oracle that I consult for direction.

Really, I doubt that many of us rush out to buy a "Blademaster Special Ops Tactical Slaughter Master" just because one guy on BF says it is the coolest thing since whipped cream.

Does anyone here actually take advice as gospel? If so, send me an email. I've got a parcel of land in the Pacific I need to unload at a fantastic price. Great place. Best vacation spot since Bermuda in fact. Real estate prices are going to triple there in the next five years...

wolf, in addition to what Para said, if I ever see NEWBIE in another one of your posts I am going to have to hurt you. I admit you may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but after 8 months and 700+ posts you ain't a NEWBIE. So Knock It Off!

Hey, I'll make this very simple and short; Take what I say, and the information that I give-out, to be 100% true and accurate, and all will be well...After-all, I AM 47 years-old, and us "old-farts" DO know everything!.:D..:D.

I couldn't agree with you more, Guyon. Let's lighten up and enjoy! Only place I can come to and talk knives with people who like'em as much as i do. I enjoy listening to everyones' opinions and like to express my own from time to time...I think that's called "conversation", and subjectivity is the essential ingredient. What we deem as "fact" today can change tomorrow, and friendly discourse often paves the way. That make any sense? Who cares!

Nicely put shivey. And a lot more concise than my ramblings.

Let's not forget also that every question asked on Bladeforums isn't a subjective one. I've asked about sizes of knives, materials in a given knife, dating of particular knives, or where to find good prices. These questions have factual answers, and people here at BF have been a great help in this regard.

Every once in awhile, someone comes along and says in a few lines what it takes me pages to say...

Guyon,
<b>"Well, my mama (don't you love posts that begin this way?) always taught me to ask everybody's opinion, listen politely, and then make up your own mind. Words to live by. I've used these boards extensively for learning about the latest knives, but I don't read them as gospel."</b>

Exactly what I was trying to say, well done!

And as my Mama used to say, "When I want your $^#*&%^ opinion, I will rip your &*+#% tongue out and let you gurgle it at me." Made me the man I am today...

Newbies... who needs 'em? I have never been a newbie. Ever. I was a Sgt. before I ever joined the Military. I just checked the box that said "Start at E-6" on my application (Kinda like the "Start at #500" you can get on a new checking account).

Besides, if you have never fought a salt water croc with one broken arm and a Spyderco Dragonfly, you don't REALLY know how to use a knife, and I am not interested in your opinion.

Anyway, no knife is as good as my new MCETKK (MC Escher Tactical Kitchen Knife). It is a double edged dagger with a full flat grind on both edges. Compared to it, allother knives are the plastic ones you get at McDonalds...

Now that is funny stuff! I've got to meet your distributor, you get all the best stuff :p

Same place that you get the Rambotronic Ninjamatic Daisy Cutter Deathmonger: BladeS 'r' US

:D

Oh, I forgot to say, I highly recommend the MC Escher TKK mentioned above. It is the only transdimensional knife available on this backwater planet...
