I'm long over due in posting this. Beware of a guy named Roy Walsh that you may see at gun and knife shows in the Midwest area. I bought a knife from this man and he turned out to be a shyster posing as a legit maker. To make things easier I'm just going to post my email traffic that I had with Ryn of RDWKNIVES. Read from the bottom up. I'll edit out the email addresses and anything else that may be questionable to post here since I didn't tell Ryn I was posting this.

This was my 12 yr old son's choice at the show. I told him I would add an equal amount of whatever he wanted to spend. Of course he wanted to spend the whole $100 he had in his pocket so we were both out a C note in this purchase.

Hey Danbo, remember me and my son showing you this knife? I remember the look on your face when you scoped it out. You didn't say anything but I could tell you were thinking "What a noob purchase!" ;). I ended up trading my boy a nice Snakewood GEC for it - Daddy taking the hit for his son :).

Kurt,
The link did work and those are not my cards or my knife. Leroy Walsh has bought knives from me but again this is not one of mine. Sorry about the knife you bought not being worth what you paid. I stamp all of my knives RW on the blade which thanks to this info will now be changed to RDW. All of my sheaths are designed and handmade from 100% genuine leather. My knives are designed and handmade completely by me from scratch. Let me make it clear that we have no agreement for him to be advertising my website as his own. I have never met the guy and I live in New York. I am going to contact Mr. Walsh regarding this matter. Thanks again for all of the pictures and information.
Thanks,
Ryn

Here are some pics. The engraving to my eyes looks like R W T-11 on one side and - 127 - on the other. I remember a sticker on the knife with T-11 that he removed. I have to say after thinking about it that he never once stated what his name was and I can't say he actually lied to me about the knife. BUT... when I picked up one of the cards he didn't say he wasn't Roy Walsh. Maybe he had some of your knives on the table and a stack of your cards advertising for you. Anyway let me know if I can help any further. I can send the original pics if the link doesn't work for you.

Kurt,
Thanks for all of the info. If you are able could you please send a picture of the knife. Also if you can get a good shot of the card I would love to see both. Thanks again.

Very interesting information. I guess I bought myself a nice wall hanger then. This fella I bought it from had a whole stack of business cards made up with your web address and the name Roy Walsh on it. He was a BIG man with a beard as I remember and glasses. Had a young man with him in his twenties maybe that I assumed was his son. The knife I bought had RW badly engraved on the brass guard otherwise it appeared to be pretty well made. I thought it all seemed a bit fishy. If you want to try and track this guy down perhaps contact the stl knife club and inquire about him. His table(s) was the last one in the fist row, I'm sure they have a record of who was where. gatewayareaknifeclub@blabla
You have my permission to forward this communication to them if you feel it may help.

Thanks for getting back to me quickly, I do appreciate it.
Kurt

Hello Kurt,
My knives are all stamped RW on the blade and I have never made a damascus knife nor have I personally sold at a knife show. I do have one guy that I know of who purchases my knives and also attends shows so maybe you bought this from him. I am not sure what all of the knives are that he deals with but I guarentee you that this is not my knife. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions you may have and I would be glad to answer what I can. Have a great day,
Ryn

Hello, you may remember my son and I buying a damascus dagger from you at the St. Louis knife show. I was hoping you could confirm as to whether you actually made the knife or if it was produced in a foreign country. Let me be clear that I am not unhappy with the purchase just trying to get the facts on the knife. I only ask because the blades on your site look to be of a different style and have higher quality sheaths.

Thanks for your time,
Kurt

I would agree, very nicely finished for one of those however. Wanna buy it? ;) . Seriously it's a decent wall hanger and that is probably where it will remain.

Kirk,
I have bought several knives at shows from Roy Walsh and he has never misrepresented the custom made knives he sells to me. He states they are all US made, by US knifemakers and and he guarantees all he sells for life for workman ship and material. He has on more than than one occasion refered me directly to a maker of certain knife to allow me to get something custom made. The knife in the picture is similar to one I bought about two years ago made by a Robert Wainwright from southwest Missouri. I am sure if you contacted Mr. Walsh he would make any adjustment needed to make you satisfied.

Mr. Linton,
The custom knife seller/maker I am talking about is Roy Walsh/Leroy Walsh from Illinois as I called him from the number on the card from the posting.
He is not aware of anyproblem with any knife he has sold. I wonder if The gentleman posting called and talked to Mr. Walsh. He mainly sells other makers
custom made knives and some of his own made by him and his son a retired Marine officer. The Mr Reilly referring to is Erryn Wielke from upstate New York who makes beautiful knives as I have purchased two of them myself from Mr. Walsh. At that time he must have had forty to fifty of Mr. Wielke knives on display in cases with all of the information listed to buy direct if you wanted as he was selling a lot of them at reasonable prices.to. He gave me the information on Mr. Wielke as he has on the maker of every knife I have purchased from him such as Mark McCoon, TL Davis, Robert Wainwright, Mike Yurco and Craig Barr. As you can tell I like Mr. Walsh and think that this posting is unfair or not even true. A full investigation and all persons involved should be contacted and all facts brought to the fore front before writing and posting derogatory information on a person as the poster stated Mr. Walsh did not lie to him, if he thought something was wrong or "fishy" why did he purchase the knife. As you stated he was reportedly using cards with a web address and name of knifemaker that was unauthorized. The name on the card along with the address and phone number are his, the web address is the web site to contact the knifemaker of the knives in the case from which you picked the card from and from that case only. I got all this information from Mr. Walsh today by calling the number on the card of which Mr.Reilly sent the picture. I have said my piece and fully intend to keep purchasing knives from Mr. Walsh.

If Roy Walsh wants to inform this forum of his version of the facts, he needs to poet here under his own name. What you have to post is hearsay and therefore of little weight.

Maybe Mr. Walsh is..................

Wouldn't be a surprise.

Very odd! Knivesandtin join date 11/8/12. Move along then.

Indeed. Investigation of knivesandtin 's Registration IP shows that LeRoy (Roy) Walsh and Roy Walsh also registered using the same IP.

knivesandtin joined us November 8, 2012.
LeRoy (Roy) Walsh joined us November 9, 2012 but hasn't posted.
Roy Walsh joined us November 10, 2012 but hasn't posted.

I scent the odor of duplicity.

Hey mods! It's obvious this wanker has no intention of making this right. Other wise one of his three personas would have responded by now. Can you not just get rid of him permanently? He doesn't deserve to be amongst such outstanding people. Maybe give him a "make it right by this date or bye bye" kind of ultimatum.

He might not know about this thread Odog27. I could have one about me and never know it because I don't make any bad or shady deals.

The guy in the emails has addressed it though. "Not mine, never sold at a show, not my card." It sound's like he's moved on being that he answered the OP's question and obviously believes the OP got tagged by some scammer.

That's a darn shame too but your heart was in the right place made2cut.

My son has a BFC account on my computer but we have way different names and he's only used his a few times to my knowledge. Maybe he couldn't get settled on the right name and once he did, he only uses that one. It's up to the Mods how they handle that.

Just saying...the member you corresponded with may not be the guy who dinged you at the show. I apologize if I missed something in my reading and am now sounding like an idiot. :)

I think you missed something. My understanding is the card had Leroy Walsh's info on it and a web address for RDW knives. Leroy Walsh is not RDW knives. Ryn from RDW knives marks (or marked) his blades with RW. Leroy Walsh buys cheap blades and marks them with an RW and sells them as customs while inferring that he is RDW knives. Further, Leroy came on here posing as someone who has bought many knives from Roy Walsh and is a satisfied customer. Why the ruse? Scammer trying to nip this in the bud. So he is making RDW knives look bad and he is ripping people off selling them junk and calling it a custom.
