Bad Shopping Experience

I have always found that I will pay more for something I really want if there is good customer service. I have certain places, even online that I would rather give my money to then to someone that treats me like shit. I would gladly pay more for a pleasant experience, and customer service means a lot to me. Regardless of the price, that is what would make my decision, not the dollars.

This wasn't Country Knives outside Intercourse,PA was it? They charge MSRP+ but always have good service and lots of older knives.

My opinion, keep the knife as a reminder to look for good B&M stores. They are out there. Otherwise, buy online and take your chances.

Lol. It was them and their selection is amazing, no doubt. The guy there I think was just getting fed up with dealing with me. Overall it was just weird. I'd see a knife and he'd hand it over and wait with a cloth to clean off the fingerprints and then wait some more. I think they just rubbed me the wrong me. The lady there seemed real nice in any case, though didn't have the luck of dealing with her.

Just thought it'd be humorous if somebody who worked there was reading this....

May all just be in my head....:o

As an overall comment, it is great that they are around. One of few places even around any more. Hell, in NJ there are none that I found. It is great that you can see and handle the knives in person, which you obviously can't do online. Just sucks that their prices aren't great. If they were somewhere between MSRP and the typical online price, they'd make a killing.

Whatever, it is a bit of buyers remorse and feeling guilty of wasting time. I'll be keeping the knife since it is what I want.

I think that's a good call. Country Knives is great for old, limited run, or special production knives. Not so much for current production. If you want a good store with nice prices and excellent service, check out Willey Knives in Delaware. Bit of a drive but worth it.

Will have to check them out. This wasn't like an all time worst experience by any means. I've had some bad ones, but like I sad just bad. They had a lot of older knives I don't think you'd find in any other store or even online. Plus they had straight razors and that sort of thing. I guess more awkward than anything else. I guess I learn from my mistakes, though with all the ones I've made you'd think I'd be a genius at this point lol.

BTW, Willey Knives seems to be what I am talking about. They are full MSRP and they aren't online pricing either. Will make a motorcycle trip out of it maybe.

I would never buy anything from Country Knives, their prices are crazy. If it is a current production, you can find it 40% cheaper from someone else, if it is a discontinued knife, just wait until it shows up on eBay or Blade Forums.
A few examples on Spyderco knives:
Mini Manix: 230$
Manix FG : 250$
It does not even make any sense, a NIB Mini Manix goes for 120-130$, a NIB FG Manix around 180-210$.
I just gave up on B&M stores, I'd rather deal with a couple of good online dealers who allow me to send back a knife I do not really like, AND give rock-bottom price.

We have a small True Value here in my little town and I'm sure glad there around. They sell a few knives with high prices but I'd still buy it to help keep them in business. I also always buy my Stihl Weed line oil and weedeater there. They are a little higher but they there when I need them.

That would be a nice trip! Beautiful farmland in southern Delaware. Say hi to Gizmo their dog.

Willey Knives' website isn't great and the prices tend to be better in store, not internet cheap, but not MSRP+. Give them a call if you are looking for something specific. They also offer very inexpensive resharpening if you need that for any knives. Plus no sales tax in DE. I try to visit a couple times a year just for fun.

Even though I run my own internet place, I still buy my stuff from brick and mortar or even other dealers online who have what I don't carry :D

There's one in CC, TX called Smith's Guns, they've been around since I can remember. I always go there for benchmades, even the $100 griptilians (about $60 online). Plus, I don't have to worry about taxing myself for "keeping" inventory :p

I could use a bit of advice on this one. I went to a local knife shop yesterday to see what they had since I never went there before. Everything was MSRP, though they had nearly every brand and model there. After looking at a bunch of knives and feeling somewhat pressured into it, I bought a Benchmade Rift.

Now I really like the knife, no question about it. The thing is, the MSRP is waaaaay above what I can get it online. Now comes for the hard part. I don't feel like I was treated all that great at the store and feel weird about the purchase, should I return the knife only to get it again online? That or just buy something else, somewhere else? For the price difference, I could get a Leatherman Wave which I also want.

Not sure if I should just take my loses and never go back to the store or return it on principle.

You're in Reading, if its the one a lil south of you ;), their prices are way above retail. The owner and staff are extremely knowledgeable, and I take great pleasure in going there. But, I am only looking at the discontinued stuff. He knows his prices are super high, on some things unreasonable. But, people still buy from him. I've never been pressured into buying anything though.

retail outlets usally work 2 ways'large model@maker selection ,high retail.small selection; lower price. nothing unetical here.you need to improve your buying habits.

Tis true. Do need to have some more control on these things, especially knives... In any case, I have a great knife that I really like. Just need to wise up.

i would return the thing if i wasnt happy, i simply will not pay MSRP for stuff, unless its something really rare and i just have to have it.

business is business and you dont owe them anything, especially if ya are not happy about service, or the price, if they go outta biz it wont be from YOU bringing back one item anyway, if they are operating on such a tight basis that one item being returned drives them outta biz it was just a question of time anyway, and these days if everything is MSRP there life expectancy isnt good anyway times are tough and everyone wants a deal.

True. The desire to return it is there, but I also need to take responsibility for not leaving without a knife. Going forward I'll remember it and not make that mistake in any case.
