Here are the facts of the situation as I see them.
I posted a few knives for sale in the exchange last night.
Here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...sale-Beer-scout-KaBar-Winchester-Schatt-queen
In the ad I stated, "1st "I'll take it" followed by PM or email takes it." At 11:28 P.M. I received a PM from a member stating that he would take the Beer Scout. To which I agreed. I suppose here I should have asked the member to post a claim in the ad. I did not think about it though as I was going to mark the knife at sale pending right after responding to the PM. When I went to the sale page SwingCut had posted an I'll take it at 11:34 PM followed by a PM. I marked the knife as SPF and responded to SwingCut saying sorry but the knife had sold. At 11:58 he posted his frustration in the sale ad to which I again replied with an apology. Then I see that he has left me with a negative Itrader rating. Obviously this is against Bladeforum rules. I can see his being disappointed or put out but seems he threw a mini-fit. I have politely written him with a quote of the bladeforum policy on feedback and asked him to have this removed. He has not responded. I have also reported the feedback via the link beside his comment. I will now let him know about this thread. Do I need to do anything else? I also welcome suggestions to avoid this in the future.

I don't think he can remove it. Only Spark can do that. I would place your post in the tech forum where Spark is likely to see it. You might also report (self) post to a moderator, but the 1st suggestion will most likely get you the best results.

Will do. Thanks

Swingcut has been around long enough to know better.
There's really nothing you can do when someone gets their panties in a wad and acts like a complete ass when things don't go their way.
Put in your sales threads that you reserve the right to sell to whom ever you choose. It's a crying shame that you have to include conditions on selling, but if everyone can't be adults I guess it's warranted.

I disagree...but I'm not a fan of that practice.
The fact that he got his panties in a twist in some half-assed display of entitlement is just sad. Hopefully, he'll reflect on his actions & take steps to remedy the negative.

Make sure you report the feedback, not just start a thread in Tech Support. He'll get a nice infraction for this, as he deserves. Do NOT leave him feedback in return, as I'm sure you already know.

It's totally up to the seller to decide if they require the "I'll take it"'s to be in the thread. I couldn't care less how you get your commitment to buy to me, you can even send it by carrier pigeon if you want. As long as it's the first to get to me, you get the knife.

It's strictly the sellers choice, as to who gets the knife. I like to honor the first qualified buyer that contacts me. While it is nice, when they also post in the thread, some buyers just send an email or PM.

Just say the first I'll take it posted in the thread or via Email or PM gets it by time stamp.
Also that you reserve the right to sell to whomever you chose.

I did a lot of selling to raise funds for a friends Grand Daughter that had Leukemia and found a lot of folks like to keep their dealings private for whatever reason so I went to the method stated and haven't had a problem since.

And don't worry, Spark will eventually hook you up.

Here we go again....
Do we see a pattern of entitled people not getting what they want or deserve and
act out by doing this...Really

These premature NEG feedbacks and Trigger Happy Whiners are getting to be a common
place weekly thing in here..

As stated earlier--Reach out to Spark..He will fix it..
Hoping Infractions fall on the person that left it..The big question
We will SEE...??

Grow up people..................

Why make a 'rule' in a sales thread that you know you're not going to honor? Surely inviting trouble?

The neg feedback is unacceptable though :thumbdn:

Well, to be fair, it does't say that the "I'll take it" must and can only be in the sales thread. Ambiguous words caused confusion, confusion invited twisted panties.

As others have stated, Spark is the only one who can remove negative feedback.

He plans on doing a forum software change in the next 48 to 72 hours ( hopefully ) and I would imagine will be quite busy with that.

I see know reason why he wouldn't remove the negative feedback you received, it's just going to take some time.

Buyers just want to know they are not getting arbitrarily shafted. By requiring the claim in the thread itself, it is clear who was there first. By waiving that rule (of your making) it has the appearance that you are picking who you will sell to. I have seen the same thing happen other places. Your mistake was innocent enough, but those less ethically challenged could make the same argument to bypass their own rule for a friend. As others have stated, just don't make any rules, then you won't feel obligated to abide by any.

Everyone's input is appreciated. I will definitely change the wording of my sales ads in the future.

To avoid issues like this in the future, if you set up a "condition" for the sale of the item, honor it. I know how it is, I've done my share of buying and selling on here and have seen some very tragic sales threads, as well as some pretty pathetic attempts to screw someone over unjustly. We give sellers a lot of leeway here, and you basically got hooked by your own line. You would definitely do well to adjust your terms.

Agreed, and I will adjust my terms to avoid this in the future. I put myself in a position where I could not honor both commitments. 100% my fault. Obviously though there was no malicious intent on my part. I know neither member personally and have no added benefit regardless of who ended up with the knife. I understand SwingCut being angry and I apologized. I do not mind him sharing his frustration in the original post or even here for that matter. A negative feedback rating however was completely unwarranted.

It always makes me a touch sad when I see the ads with the 1st 1/2 page being legal.

Technically the OP broke his own rule, but easy to do. Buyers could show more understanding in such a situation, where no harm was intended and they received an apology. They are just knives.

I personally don't ask for the I'll take it in the thread. I ask them to PM me, since I don't look at the threads all that often. This still doesn't stop someone from posting I'll take it in the thread(no PM) and feeling it is theirs(and bent out of shape when they find it isn't). Maybe I will add the clause" I reserve the right to sell to whom I choose, but will make every attempt to be fair " to the bottom of my ads. I don't wish to pick and choose buyers, but in the end the decision is mine and I don't want you to have to bring your lawyer to the exchange sale.

If I read, "1st "I'll take it" followed by PM..." it would be crystal clear to me what I would need to do to secure the sale. I don't know how it could be interpreted any other way.

With all due respect. ^^^^^ The only thing that matters:
Negative Feedback in this case, should not have been left- period! There's no excuse for that! :thumbdn:

It's just a freaking knife! Find another one you like, and move on.

If I were to sell anything here, I would probably only have one condition (aside from the price and payment terms) - "I'll let you know when it's sold."

Feedback here was obviously a violation of the rules and should result in an infraction.
