Bad: SwingCut Left Negative feedback with no deal being done

If I read, "1st "I'll take it" followed by PM..." it would be crystal clear to me what I would need to do to secure the sale. I don't know how it could be interpreted any other way.

Yep, so would I.

People can misinterpret the simplest of things which is why mykel m's suggestion is a great one.

The seller can sell to whomever he chooses for *whatever* reason. The buyer using the iTrader system to mend a bruised ego is childish and petty. Get over it--there will be other knives.

And of course a transaction never even took place (no goods or money were exchanged), so leaving feedback is against the rules to begin with.

A little common sense is always nice also. Seller was in no way nefarious.
The seller explained and apologized to the dude. What else would he like?? Blood??
Like has been said so many times.....it's just a knife man.
Entitled whiner is feeling quite entitled.

Sad to see that someone decided to become too reactive and in a presumably state of being "butthurt", decide to ABUSE the feedback system to leave a negative for someone who he had never consummated and completed the transaction with. No payment plus no shipping and receiving of the merchandise culminating in veracity for merchandise authenticity and verification of the seller's description should be an instant disqualifier plus solid grounds for feedback removal and possibly dishing out an infraction to the said "prospector" (note a potential buyer is NOT a buyer!) in this case no matter as to how some good folks on here are chiding the seller for being ambiguous. The seller is not totally devoid of blame but I think that he has now learned a lesson too.

The silver lining for me personally: I will add another sage line to my ToS as follows: "I will decide as to whom I do business with at my own sole discretion and the item will be sold when I mark is SOLD!". If someone is put off by this, I'll be totally fine by it BUT I do always state in my sales thread that, the first unconditional "I will take it" then followed by a PM (for paid members, none paying members clearly at a disadvantage) will take priority. I understand as to why some people like to PM only in order to stay anonymous on the sales thread, but such a PM without a "I will take it" claim on my sales threads will NOT get priority dibs with my intended sale.

Hey, just saw this thread. First of all, my sincere apologies to the seller......didn't realize the rule about the feedback. My bad for sure.
I have been around several knife sites for quite a few years and the people who have dealt with me know that I would rather give away a knife than to not follow thread rules I post.
Thought the fact that I was 100% a buyer and followed the thread rules from the seller exactly, feedback was warranted. I will make sure it's withdrawn and once again my
apologies to anyone offended. It's just a knife and my issue was the fact that I did what the seller said and was passed over. I have had no previous dealings with the seller good or
bad so lacked understanding of why he wouldn't follow his own rules. The Exchange here on BF is a fantastic thing and I'm sorry to use it in an inappropriate way. Hope everyone is
having a good day and each of you accept this apology.

Bravo...........Bravo...........Bravo..............Bravo..............

And to those of you who called me an entitled whiner, it's just not the case. I wasn't aware of the rules on feedback and since I performed as a buyer I felt like rating my experience was acceptable.
I'm the last person that would ever feel entitled, but the first person that will be offended by unfair practices......and that's what seemed to have happened here imo. My feedback on all sites is 100% positive and it's something that I'm proud of. Every person that has dealt with me always is treated fairly and by the rules of whatever format I'm selling on. I am user IMBand on another site and many of you know me from there. I can only say that I didn't know the feedback rule and at the minimum this point of 'first I'll take it' has been revisited again and maybe the seller will adjust his practices moving forward.....but that's up to him. I will gladly accept the infraction issued as it appears that I have earned it 100%. I will continue to be a person who follows whatever rules I post in my sales threads and treat everyone in a respectful way. If you posted in this thread with name calling and assumptions....it's understood and maybe even deserved, just isn't accurate.

Problem solved...I personally would not <will not> hesitate to do business with either of these brothers.

I personally will avoid SwingCut. If he thinks that's worthy of bad feedback, I wouldn't want to be part of any deal where I actually made a mistake. I'm not convinced the seller made a mistake, because he didn't require the "I'll take it" to be in the thread.

Everyone knows that stating first "I'll take it" is used to avoid confusion and make it clear who asked for the knife first. To accept first "I'll take it" by PM accomplishes nothing imo.
Sellers often post that their knives will be sold by timestamp which is another thing entirely. Not sure why this is confusing for people but common sense isn't that common is it?

It does seem to be lacking around here, dear. ;)

You see it's not the seller's job to keep you in the loop about who gets what, it's to keep himself straight and represent the knife honestly. It's no one's business who buys a knife if they don't want it known. A while back I bought a knife on here that was intended as a gift for another person here. Now what would it have accomplished to post openly that I was buying it? And we all use timestamps, that's just another way to say that the first to say the magic words gets the knife. If Joe's PM is timestamped before Bob's post, Joe was first.

ETA: It's really not about your view on PM's verses posts, anyway. I'll deal with people on both sides of the fence. I think you over receated with the feedback, and wouldn't want to chance my rating over an honest mistake if I can avoid it.

It's totally up to the seller to decide if they require the "I'll take it"'s to be in the thread. I couldn't care less how you get your commitment to buy to me, you can even send it by carrier pigeon if you want. As long as it's the first to get to me, you get the knife.

You have a carrier pigeon that leaves Timestamps?!!......that's so awesome!! ; )

Look, I explained and apologized and that's all I can do. I disagree with you about what first "I'll take it" means for sure. You run your sales the way you are comfortable and I will do the same.
I do appreciate your opinion and comments about this, Thanks for taking the time to post them.......people make mistakes, the seller admitted his and I admitted mine.....maybe you've never made one?

It helps to read the rules so as to be aware of them. You agreed to follow them when you signed up. Excuses now are just that. Ignore.

Go back and look at my last post, I edited for clarity. I don't care whether you prefer PM's or posts, I only care that you reacted so strongly as to neg the seller over that. As I said above, I wouldn't want a neg over an honest mistake.

And if you want to be sarcastic and sling insults, go right ahead. ;) The timestamp would be when YOUR carrier pigeon arrived with your "I'll take it". :p

No insult intended but yes maybe a little sarcasm, lol. You are the one that brought carrier pigeons to this discussion aren't you?......and then used timestamps as something that trumps everything else?

it was an explanation, not an excuse. I didn't read every word of BF Policy when I signed up and I don't read every word on my car rental contracts either.......guilty for sure. Your point is valid that it's up to me to know the rules of this site. Agreed.

Timestamps, the time a message or email was sent. The internet sure makes them easy, but if your carrier pigeon pecks on my window, I'm going to read the message and note the time if there's likelihood someone else is competing for the same knife. I'll even note the time when I hear that voice outside saying "Telegram!". Unless the pigeon got there first, of course. ;)

P. S. I'll bet everyone else reading this knows that my carrier pigeon comment was a joke to make a point. The pigeons are too busy crapping on the statues in the park downtown to bother bringing messages to anyone! :D

Thanks for chiming in here SwingCut. No hard feelings here. The feedback has been removed, we can get back to our sharp, pointy things now. I think it's time to shut this one down.
