Bad - Usps

Well......I have never had any problems with USPS before or after 9-11-01. I use USPS for 90% of overseas shipment, usually due to the request from the customer who wants to save a few $$. Maybe on 1 or 2 occasions have had a frustration with UPS....... AS far as "the drivers for UPS hiding the packages under the mat, ringing the doorbell, then leaving........" All I can say is,a UPS driver is supposed to leave the package "out of sight, out of weather".(not always followed either) .....the UPS driver just does not have the time to wait for everyone to come to the door, hence, that is why they leave......especially this time of year. I have been a UPS driver for about 20 years now......today I deliverd 270 stops between 900AM & 800PM...note..270 stops..not packages. I would love to say "hi" to every customer but logistically it cannot be done. Are some of those local clerks dumb #$%'s......you bet.....they can be very frustrating and rude at times. UPS,FEDEX,USPS....all seem to be good but each will have a bad day every now and then....well, off to bed.....more stops tomorrow:)

God Love ya' Mike!! 270 stops...dude!!I know some USPS and UPS guys that can't even count that high!!:D:D

I'm a little disappointed I haven't heard back from TAD (Triple Aught Design). Mailed them on both Monday & Tuesday.

Could be they've been on vacation for a week, and just haven't mailed the Photon's!

Hopefully they'll either arrive or I'll know they're NOT going to arrive, so I can place another order.

Having worked at one of the largest UPS hubs in the midwest for four years whilst going to college, I can tell you that I don't use UPS to ship anything.

I rotated through the load, unload, and sort areas, and the stories I could tell you would make your head spin. I've seen things done to packages that would make you sick. Truly horrible and unholy acts.

My "insider" knowledge aside, what gets me the most is that every time I order an item from the left coast and the shipper only offers UPS, I can guaran-damn-tee you that I will not see that package within the same business week. (unless I upgrade to the ungodly expensive blue or red label service)I can place an order to any company out west, first thing Monday morning, ask the nice people to use three-day select, and I will NOT have it by Friday. Every damn time. The seller does their part, and e-mails me the tracking number that afternoon, and even UPS's web tracking tells me I'll have it Thursday. Thursday comes and goes- no box. Website still says Thursday. Friday afternoon comes and goes, no box, and I'm out of my friggin' head! I check the website Friday night, and lo and behold! It says my box has been unloaded at a hub not 5 miles from my house, where it will now spend the weekend. "Re-scheduled delivery" claims the tracking results. Every single time. It's Monday night before I see the package arrive at my door.

This has happened at least six times that I can recall. Customer Service (ha!) is useless, and I've learned to accept it as fact that UPS cannot move a package from Arizona and all points further west to my house in northern Ohio in three days for anything under $12.00. That's just ridiculous when USPS Priority will do that trip in three days everytime at $3.50.

An order just got sent this way today from AZCK, and Jay used UPS three day, which I asked him for. Think I'll see it by Friday? Hell no. I'll just watch the tracking page over the weekend so I can observe it napping in the hub 10 minutes away...

I've had good luck with UPS too, but I live real close to their major East Coast depot, which is in Whately. I've always felt that knocked off a day's shipping time, at least.

Just an update. I got home last night and sure enough, UPS had made their feeble attempt at delivering the computer and had left a note on the door saying that they would attempt another delivery tomorrow. Now, it's off to the races as I now have to track down the driver of the truck. Sometimes I get lucky, and he is still in our neighborhood, but not today. I make a trip over to the UPS office and confirm what I already know; he is still delivering and has not made it back to the station yet. Back out to try to find the truck. Even in our small town, you would not believe how many of those big frigging brown trucks are driving around! I see about 8 UPS trucks, but not the one I am looking for. Finally, as I am heading home depressed, I see my truck and flag him down and receive my package. Total elapsed time? About an hour and a half of my time I could have spent in the shop finishing a knife for this weekend. Good old UPS!

Into Canada from the USA I have always used USPS Global Priority, uninsured at the senders cost of $4 to $8 bucks which I reimburse to the shipper. I have moved at least 150 pieces and not lost one, although one got hung up in NJ for a month but when the sender filed the claim the knife was all of a sudden dicovered in the post office in NJ. Shipping time is 7 to 9 days in most cases and Canada Post is part of the reason for slower service. This "works for me"

Yo, Glockman, what about those thumbstuds? Never had a problem????? Hey RYAN, this is the THIRD time I have mailed you velcro. Get it yet? I REST my case.....wolf

USPS has been A-1, perfect, numero uno, etc ad nauseaum in my book until the last few weeks.
3 Priority packages sent to or by me have all taken 6-7 days. Normally takes two. The holidays are upon us:(
I'll take USPS over UPS (Unrepentant Package Smashing if not losing, non-English-speaking-1800#-"service"-people-having, 3 day "overnight" shipping, your second day air package's tracking # has not entered our system even though it's already arrived and a day late, ring the doorbell and thrash all Olympic records getting back to the van and out of the driveway because we have some uncontrollable masochistic urge to drive back out to your house and ring your doorbell and run for it all over again tomorrow bastids) any time.
I'm not bitter.....really:o

I have someone waiting now on nine days for a Priority Mail package. Still, USPS is numero uno in mis libros. I just can't trust anyone who drives a large brown truck....

Man, this old "sad song" again! My partner Dexter Ewing LOVES UPS and HATES USPS and I'm the exact opposite. The last two times I used UPS was because I HAD to! The makers who were sending me knives would only ship by UPS. Well, BOTH packages arrived crushed! One knife, (luckily it was in a padded case), was actually partly sticking out of the package!

My experiences with USPS have been almost perfect. The ONLY problem I've ever had was when I sent my friend NCBlades a knife by Priority Mail and it took 8 days. This is really saying something because last winter I was unemployed and sold knives to support myself. I literally shipped as many as 5-10 knives a day by Priority Mail to fellow forumites and EVERY ONE was delivered promptly and in great shape. These are my experiences and I'm stickin' with Uncle Sam!

Had a gentleman send me a knife yesterday via a UPS package. The package arrived fine, the knife was gone. Ripped open and fell out. Now we go through the claims process.

Wolf...,

Yah, I forgot about THAT..

However, on a happier note, I ordered two sets of custom thumb-studs from Ray Murski. He mailed them to me (via USPS Priority Mail) on the 3rd, and I received them TODAY (the 5th!), and that was clear from Virgina (East coast) to Washington State (West coast).
...2days!.:).:).

I have engaged in probably 30 to 40 knife transactions this year. I have used USPS all but once (the line was too long and UPS has a shop next door).

In all those transactions, sending and receiving, I have not had a single problem. The lone exception was that one recent package took about 2 days too long to arrive and the USPS "delivery confirmation" system is worthless.

Even using Priority Mail, insured, I have saved at least $70 over using UPS ground.

They have slowed down since 9/11, but they still are a good value.

USPS is better than anyone else. Why? USPS insurance limit is 25,000 UPS and FedEx is only 500. If you are sending something expencive(like a swiss watch, i collect watches) and the cost is WELL OVER 500 then use USPS. It is a known fact UPS and FedEx reimburse only up to 500 no matter what the counter clerk told you when you shipped it. Also it is a federal offence to mess with USPS mail. So if your package gets lost US Postal Inspectors and FBI will be after it, and if they find the guy he is in deep sh!t. It is not a federal offence to mess with UPS and FedEx packages.

As far as service is concerned, I never really had problem with ether.

I have never had trouble with priority mail, until now

I sent a package to HI 9 days ago and it has still not arrived.....

USPS strikes again.

I had some extra Micra sheaths (they didn't fit the plastic-coated micras I bought).

I REALLY didn't want to wait in line for an hour at the Post Office, so I stuck 4 in an envelope and mailed them off to Kin Eng (Kmenakano or something like that).

Kin received an empty envelope today, with a note from USPS that said "sorry".

Ugh.

My experience with USPS has been quite positive so far. Except one. In April I sent MO to my bank in SD and the letter arrived there ..... in December!! (fortunately the same year ;))

Here are some comments from someone who does many, many shipments per day. USPS isn't using airplanes since 9/11. Most priority mail is taking a week or more in transit. Fedex is less reliable than either UPS or USPS to domestic addresses but they do an excellent job to business addresses. In fact Fedex doesn't cover the entire country for domestic addresses. I think the service will improve with time and we may even use it if they get their act together. I.e. recommended for shipping to business adresses and not for domestic addresses.

UPS is imperfect but clearly the best and most reliable for shipping to domestic addresses. Our losses with USPS (primarily to PO Boxes) are nearly 6 times greater than they are with UPS on a per capita basis. There is no doubt that one out of 1000 or so packages will get misrouted around the country but the percentage is very small compared to the post office. No kidding. I do this every day. Those who have bad experience with UPS probably have little experience with UPS. We see our UPS man twice per day and we're the largest account on his route. If there were a better way to ship you can believe me we would use it. Take care.
