Baddddd idea

Funniest thread in at least the last week or so.

Any sane knifemaker or manufacturer will strongly discourage you from throwing their "normal" knives, because it's a very bad idea. Those who don't, are simply hedging their bets that it will happen so seldom, they can afford to replace the inevitable breakage.

Not only is it a terrible idea to throw an F1 or Bravo 1 or Busse whatever or THK Sidekick for the obvious reasons (yer gonna break it eventually, probably sooner than later), they're also all terrible throwing knives. That's simply not what they're designed or balanced for.

I would not throw a F1, or a Bravo 1, it many other knives. I have broken non throwing knives in a single throw. I have other non throwing knives that have survived decades of throwing. HARD. From distances out to about 65 feet. I have one particular knife, a WWI bayonete that I have been throwing tor 25 years or a bit more. Hard throwing. Distances out to 65 feet. Thousands upon thousands upon thousands of missed throws.

I have broken dedicated throwers. Knives actually designed for it. I've thrown and broken spears, axes (big and small).

I have no qualms about throwing Busse knives.

I've seen a few broken by side load prying (normally tips). I've seen a few broken by vice and side blows with sledge hammers. I have seen a handle shift (they are held on with press fit tubes/rivets).

I respect James Terrio, and any maker or manufacturer that tells you not to throw their knives. It is not a great idea.

But I don't believe in all the years I've been paying attention to Busse that a blade has broken from throwing. Maybe, but the Jerry Busse will smile, tell you how awesome the knife looked while flying, and send replace it, or if it is out of production, give you a shop credit to use on a current production knife. They are tough, and the culture of abuse surrounding them is a kick in the pants.

Most of the knives I've owned, I would never throw. Most knives I throw, I know won't be warranted against breakage or damage from it. I'm ok with that. Busse, Swamprat, and Scrap Yard are all Busse Family knives. And if I own one that is fun to throw, I can do it. Good idea, or bad..... they will take care of me if bad happens.

Disclaimer:
(I ALSO DISCOURAGE PEOPLE FROM THROWING MOST KNIVES)

Why throw away your only tool/weapon? if you plan on throwing knives, then get some throwing knives, and if you don't see a reason to be throwing a knife, then don't throw a knife. Throwing a knife as a ranged weapon is not as glamorous as the movies make it out to be, nor is it actually that effective. Throwing stars IMO are better throwing devices simply because they take less practice to stick in a target and are just as distracting as a knife.

Who says I'm throwing my only tool or knife? I've got lots. Including dedicated thowers. I'd be confident throwing a hawk or knife in a fight if I had another knife ot hawk ready.

That is theoretical, as I have never been in a knife fight, duel, sword fight or ye-olden war.

But I've thrown knives and axes likely tens if not hundreds of thousands of times. Moving forward, backward, sideways. 3 or 4 in a row while closing distance. It's been a while since I've thrown hours at a time, but I still teach scouts how occasionally. I did an 8 hour long day a while a go, where I believe I ran nearly 200 kids through in groups, teaching them to throw hawks. Only about three kids could not get a stick on the target during their rotation.

Throwing sharp pointy things is just plain fun.
