I've got a Maxpedition JUMBO versipack that i like a lot, but I need to find something in the same ballpark size/comfort factor that is not so "military" looking (just doing some occasional traveling in areas where military draws attention...)

FATBOY for reference, mine is slightly larger than this, but you get the idea:

Anyone have any suggestions? I tried filson, but didn't see anything that small.

thanks

AmeriBag makes some very cool versitile bags that pretty much run the gamet from tactical to down right girly. I have 2. They can be on the pricey side, but they are ergonomically correct and can't be beat for ease of use. I sound like a commercial, but I really like my bags (granted, I'm a girl, but not one of those girly girls...)

Anyway, you may want to do a quick google and see what they have.

You mean there is no "Hello Kitty" version available? :grumpy:

It's as simple as sewing on a "Hello Kitty" patch. ;)

Seriously, go get some clearly non-military looking patches that suit you, and sew them on, to make your FATBOY look not so "Military" looking. That way, you still get to use the bag you already have and like.

Perhaps a leather messenger bag? Or Pleather?

How durable do you want it? I'm betting you could find something at Target pretty easy. Or a Cordura messenger bag from LL Bean. THe mid-size might be the same size, less pockets.

Scooby, I looked, but I think those are only for ladies, LOL. Nice stuff though.

Dennis, I ought to look at LL Bean.

I looked at REI but just don't like the neon super silly looking bright colors etc... I know it's good stuff but not at all my style. Too bad they don't just make brown and black stuff.

Still looking...

I don't think it looks too military or tactical. Just don't get OD green or cammo :) Most anything else you'll find, like REI or Victorinox will look the same - paramilitary. If not, it'll look completely touristy. Also you won't get nearly the same quality and durability as Maxi.

I have a jumbo also. I'm thinking about removing the big strap buckle and having the strap stitched. Also thinking of removing the front flap buckle completely and stitching velcro under the flap along with removing the Maxp tags.
Might make it look a little more civilian.

Ken, if you want to wear one of these to Orlando, I think there's a matching Glock you could pack.

It is too bad that Ken doen't have a SHBM LE to trade because he should have these

+1 for Duluth Pack:thumbup:

I have their Field Satchel that I use for geo-caching, quick grab and go type stuff, makes a good man bag IMHO.

For something more, say an extra pair of pants/shirt and a Busse, handgun, bottle of H2O, and anything else neccesary in a typical day trip, the Wanderer pack can't be beat! I have one in khaki and it is extremely versatile and very blending to the sheeple.

I have beat the snot out of these bags and they are much more forgiving on your shoulders and sides/back and way more comfortable than any of the nylon assault style gear I've used.

Those look like nice bags. Do they shed water or soak it up? Not a big fan of the buckles ... do any of them have zippers under the flaps or are they cinch cords?

that should go well with your black knee high vinyl boots, and black thong with chaps you usually wear.
