Baldric Carry?

A few years back (*can't really recall when), Vic Lin, over at Work Tuff Gear, abandoned the "belt loop" thing and started including the baldric D-rings with some of his larger knives.

I had bilateral/inguinal hernia surgery in my late 20's, and don't really like heavy stuff on my belt. So, I've been known to pilfer the Magpul sling off my M4 when I'm out mulling-around and harvesting Mesquite for the fire...

Sorry, Jonny. I found this thread a few years late. I've some experience with baldric carry - I've used one for a camp axe, a large blade, etc. It's an excellent option for comfort, versatility, and ease of access and movement. Baldrics, slings, shoulder belts, etc. - I've used them all over the years in some of my 18th and 19th century living history endeavors. I don't like having too much crap on my belt; in my opinion, it can prevent freedom of movement and add to fatigue. Distributing weight above the waistline has always done well for me.

Here is an old pic of a set up I use on occasion. I fashioned this on the fly and if I were to make it again, I'd do some things differently based on experience. (Yes, I hiked up a mountain with a Cold Steel dirk - it was epic). I'll try and dig up a pic of me and my buddies that shows me wearing it.

Even more epic was the fact you hiked up a mountain carrying a BK2, a knife that weighs about two lbs more than everything else in this picture combined. :p

I routinely carry a camera at work in what would be called a baldric carry. Or at the very least a cross body carry. Keeps the camera at hand but not in the way.

I have known people to carry large blades and even swords in the same manner.

I would think that rigging up a suitable carry option would be a matter of a length of appropriate width leather and a stainless steel ring joining the two ends together would work. That ring would serve as the attachment point for the sheath. If adjustment would be needed then attaching a buckle would not be hard to do with some basic leather working skills.

I have this baldric rig for the Busse Straight Handle Battle Mistress from our very own leatherman leatherman for more the a dozen years. The position of the knife can be changed by moving the strap to the bottom loop (more horizontal) or the top loop for a more vertical carry. It included a belt loop for “dangler” carry as well. Absolutely amazing fit and finish and this sheath and strap.
It’s a fantastic carry option for a large knife, especially when hiking areas with a lot sheeples as it is quite concealable under a full zip jacket.

While writing this post I also remembered that I bought this from a buddy about a year or two before I found this 1/300 Mistress.

I saw this image, I believe, on BladeForum many years ago and asked the poster where they got this rig from.
They told me ChuddyBear.
So I contacted Mr. Bear and got myself one just like it.
A teklok is used.
I don’t have immediate access to it, but will update my post when I do.

Here are two pics. First pretty much like the example before^
Shows the frog(?) where the teklok can be attached.
A rather simple way of adjusting by using paracord and knots.
