Baldric rig for MC ?

I was able to mess around with the new MC today and enjoyed it very much.
It felt fine on my hip but my left arm is disabled and I usually carry something else on my hip, wether around the burbs where I live, in the woods, hunting, or traveling, I have grown used to being armed through the years.
That leaves me with the MC and the carry piece fighting for real estate on my carry belt. It’s not so much of a big deal with smaller blades but I was thinking that for such a big knife it’d be nice to have some sort of baldric rig to sling over my shoulder when I get where I’m going and take it out of the pack or to wear for quick jaunts into the woods.
It’d make drawing the knife easier with a cross draw motion while allowing my left arm to basically remain straight to grab the sheath and assist in the draw. I love the look of a nice leather sheath but I’m just not a nice leather sheath kind of guy, so, do any of you fine folks know of a maker that could rig up something like that which would attach to a tek-lok ?
This would allow me to pop it on the belt or outside of a pack easily or clip it into the baldric sling and use it that way without having to make any changes to the sheath.

Thanks for any help that you can give.

I’m on the books with Sagewood gear to have something similar made for my BC. I’m about 13 weeks into the approx 10 week wait so I’m hoping for progress soon.

Thinking something pretty simple, kinda like what Paul Long made for Nathan’s recent 14” dagger project. Not something, as never.truly.lost never.truly.lost would call, Miami Vice.

I definitely wouldn’t want it to be Miami Vice-ish

A nice Bush crafty leather sling with a leather frog of some sort that’d allow the Tek-Lok to attach to it would be more in line with what I’m envisioning. If the leather could be made to look like an old Mil-Surp rifle sling that’d be pretty neat too.
I’d be happy with the heavy duty seat belt style nylon materials used to make modern rifle slings too. Since all the buckles and hardware are easily purchased maybe I’ll try to make that myself. The hardest part will be the “frog” section but maybe I could make that out of 1/4 inch ply.

Please post pics of your rig when it comes in, I’m very curious about how it’ll turn out.

Thanks.

Maybe you could try using a belt, mine has Chicago screws already holding the buckle on, and the holes for the buckle tang on the other side. You could put screws through the existing punched holes and the sheath eyelets. That’s pretty much what I was planning to do with the sword.

That’s a interesting idea. I have an old GI belt in the Gear room, I’ll check to see if the holes line up to the sheath.

...did someone say "flexibility?" ;)

Chad crafted this one for me for a MOABOLO <roughly the same dimensions as a HD or MC> with enough versatility built in to handle most any future* carry contingency...

*then destiny intervened and the KODPiece became a reality  ...

working with Chad on this was like getting fitted for a suit by a professional tailor:thumbsup:

...from cpirtle cpirtle 's Instagram:

Custom PirtleMade Battle-Baldric. This is a heavier duty version of my standard Baldric featuring 1.5” straps, D-ring lashing point that can be positioned anywhere on the strap and my new T-block stop to support carrying an accessory knife high on the strap.

That’s a pretty sweet set up!
Have you worn it around much to see how it works for you?

You might be able to use a luggage strap. I got a nice nylon one with metal clasps and a rubber piece for the shoulder awhile back in a luggage store to replace my broken brief case strap. You could snap it on directly to the kydex rivet holes. I’ll try to get a picture when I’m home, if I could find it.

Yup, I've hiked with her at least 8 or 10 times before it got so humid...I've got my 1311 hung on her now...sits just right and keeps the handle at a great level

The baldric is sounding more and more like the answer to what I’m thinking of.

Do you tie it off to your leg or let it swing ( the knife ;) )?

That’d be great, thanks.

Well I learned something today from you guys, the Tek-Lok does fit on a GI pistol belt.
It totally makes sense to me now that I’ve thought about it but I never even considered that it’d be an option.
Considering the two guys who invented the Tek-Lok and who they really designed it for you’d think that it’d be an obvious match but I never put the two together.
Here’s a crappy pic of it on a mil-surp belt that I had laying around.

Unfortunately the other side of the sheath doesn’t match up to the next set of holes but that’s an easy fix with a zip tie or some para-cord.

I highly doubt that I’ll carry it this way but it gives me some ideas to mess around with before the baldric gets bought or built.

Thanks for the plug PeteyTwoPointOne!

I have two styles of Baldric I offer, like the one linked above and then if you look at the Sheath pre-order for the K-18 there's a post with my standard Baldric, or there are a few in my Instagram feed.

With regard to the flopping, many people, including me, will run a 6-8" length of paracord from the Baldric to your belt or belt loop to keep flopping to a minimum. It's going to happen with any shoulder slung rig and is a good tip regardless of what you end up with.

Good luck choosing, lots of awesome ways to do it.

Neither am I. Here's one I use that's fashioned in the way you suggest. It was made by Chuddy Bear leather, but I don't believe he is taking orders now. It should be a breeze for any of the leather guys that frequent here. It may not be much to look at, but it is simple and effective.

Well, that’s exactly what I was talking about, just perfect!
Thanks for sharing the link.
I bet that one of the great sheath makers around the forum could easily sell a batch of those “ frogs “, or adapters, and it’d sure look nicer than whatever I’d come up with.

Here’s the strap I was referring to before. Not much to look at, but it works pretty well for horizontal carry.
