Time for an update. Some have been asking.

The molds are finished on the American BaliYo and we’re making parts. The parts are quite intricate and all of the little screw together parts and spring parts that make up the cartridge area are working well.

We are making some material changes as one of the parts wouldn’t pass break tests.

I might add that the molds were made in America. We probably could have saved $50K on the mold by outsourcing, but we felt the American BaliYo should be USA made.

The “lead-free” brass parts (3) are being machined, pretty close tolerance stuff.

Wire clips and pivots are being formed. Packaging is progressing. Eric is still refining the video.

Making something that has never been made before is challenging. There is little history to learn from. We had similar issues in developing the first Clipit folder (’81).

Eric said the delivery date has been pushed to July 4th for the American BaliYo. (It’s Eric’s project). The material change will cost us a few weeks.

MSRP is $69.95 Higher than we’d hoped for, but they’re made right (10 million flips), made safe, made with Fisher Space Pen refill (the best) and made by American workers for an American company.

I understand that BalliYo.com is up and running if anyone wants to contact us for more information or wants to order BaliYo’s.

We’ll be working our first show for Pens, the Stationary show in New York, next week.

We are quite excited. It has been a long road and most of it breaking trail.

Thanx much.

Slight URL correction: BaliYo.com (clickable http://www.BaliYo.com/)

Looks awesome by the way. I'm a big fan of the Fisher Space Pens, they write very smoothly. I just got two more chrome bullet pens last week actually ;) Can't wait to pick up a BaliYo!

Crazy question: Are these going to get CC numbers like the knives do?

Thanks for the head's up Sal. This is yet another release I'm very much looking forward to. I can't recall the dates for Blade offhand. Will there at least be a proto there that we can play with?

That's a big chunk of change. I imagine that, like anything to do with money and possible outsourcing, the decision was not lightly undertaken. Made in the USA means a great deal to a lot of people, so I want to express my appreciation for Spyderco making that choice on the American BaliYo.

Thanks for making a product we can be proud of Sal.

10 Million flips! How did you test that?

Thanks for the update, Sal.

I'm a bit bummed out about the price, though.

Will any of the later models be any cheaper?

Sal,

That pen is extremely cool, I will have to pick up at least one. I completely understand the pricing and appreciate the effort that went into making the pens and like the affiliation with Fisher (= Quality).

Remember, that price is the MSRP. The SS Dragonfly has a msrp of $75, yet retails for, what, $40?

I'm sold, but would really like to know about colors. Darker colors would be great.

Can't wait can't wait can't wait!!! The site won't let me pre-order or just order anything. Need one or ten on the day it comes out. Where is this stationary show in NY and can I buy a proto or anything there??

The Baliyo can't get here soon enough. I want to start flipping with no more cuts.

aww, fsck, they're coming... well, I guess I don't really need that money.;)
