BaliYo update

Bottom line is if you are a Bali enthusiast who (like most people who are) cant flip a real bali in the workplace or in school or in public then this is for you. If you just need a pen without anything fancy about it buy a Bic. If you think it's too expensive don't buy one. What the hell is so hard about any of these concepts? You expect to buy an American made product like this for 20 bucks? Guess again. Quality costs money. Benchmade sells a $100.00 dollar pen that can be doubled as a Kubotan and I've never heard anyone complain about them. It's a friggin glorified extra thick Bic. No skill involved in using it. And don't give me this crap that it takes skill to use a kubotan because it doesn't. Hold it in your hand and hit someone with the thing. Spyderco is selling you a pen that teaches dexterity and skill. If you want to hit someone with something pick up a rock. Stop your whining. All of you complaining about the price sound like a bunch of bitches. Shut up!

I have learned to take the whole price thing with a grain of salt. Some folks will buy a $3000.00 firearm or a $1000.00 knife. Others would buy a $1000.00 dollar watch. Who cares! Everyone has different hobbies and interest. If this item was made off shores, then the complaints would be fired at Spyderco.

Now we got another made in America brand and we have a problem with the price. Kudos to Spyderco for at least trying to appeal to the masses.

If it was id buy one as it is if its not a solid kubotan type pen then i cant think of one reason i need to spend all that on a pen.
I dont get the hype over this if its just a pen not at this price.

Me...I can buy a perfectly serviceable solid FRN Kubotan for $5.95 without pen functionality and a nicely functional 99-cent Bic to go with it...no hype involved at all. Or I could spend close to $100 or more for a machined-metal pen-based Kubotan with considerably more hype involved...or not...

Additionally, If I want a Spyderco-well-made-in-the-USA small Balisong/coordination trainer that also doubles as a quality pen, I can spend whatever the street price of the BaliYo shakes out to be and acquire one...hype or not, it is more than just a pen...

But you...you are certainly under no compulsion to do anything at all in this life if you don't want to, which should include paying any attention to hype or its influence towards the acquisition of anything...why, do you feel compelled to do so?

These_Nutz, if you want to know why people will buy it while it can't be used as a kubotan, please read the following statements:
- some people don't want a kubotan
- most of them don't want to be caught with a tool that is intended to be used as a kubotan. the best way to please them seems to make the stuff so that it CAN'T be used as a kubotan.

now why the hype on a $70 plastic pen?
- there's no seriously made "legal everywhere" balisong trainers around, this BaliYo will probably fit the bill, accordingly to those who have tried it.
- some people have a great fun flipping a balisong, and some of them don't take into account the fact that the balisong can be used as a weapon. (Myself, I only flip at home and if I had to fight at home, the balisongs would certainly not be the first knives I'll pick up). I believe some people have more fun with a balisong (a BaliYo, when it'll be out) than with a XBox. That's hard to believe for a video games fan, but why do some people not have game consoles?

I hope you will understand at least that the BaliYo is MEANT not to be a weapon so that people who are in legally restrictive areas can still flip a nice balisong-mechanism thing.

No i dont want to know why the hype if its not a kubotan i just wanted to know why the hype as i knew little about it other than its a pen.
I dont work in a office but on a building site so i dont pen push much.
I guessed it may have been a kubotan pen like benchmade and other companys produce and thought thats maybe why it seemed so popular on the forums but i now understand if its a training tool.
A kubotan pen would be a good idea too.
Im in the UK so there illegal hear anyway the knife ones i mean.
Flicking a baliisong type tool is going to draw attention.
I also dont need a kubotan or even a knife but i still carry both.If your into carrying pens i can understand that its just not something i carry often.

true, which is why I don't take my balisong out of my home... and why I am happy Spyderco is making the pen toy... so I can carry it.

I don't care if it is a pen or not; just happy it flips. :p
