BaliYo update

here in Russia we have legal limit for balis - 9 cm, and very happy with new Spyderco products, that is, Smallfly and coming BaliYo.
thanks for the update!

The BaliYo is probably the coolest pen I've ever seen.

Now I can flip during my seventh period biology class...

Nice, Mr. Glesser. :D Thanks for all the hard work and innovation you've brought to the industry.

Sal,

Are they going to all be red, white and blue? The one that you let my wife flip in Eugene was green, if remember correctly.

And thanks for the update!

I am fairly sure it is intended as a toy/dexterity builder. I don't believe they were built with being used as a kubotan in mind at all.

If it was id buy one as it is if its not a solid kubotan type pen then i cant think of one reason i need to spend all that on a pen.
I dont get the hype over this if its just a pen not at this price.

Hi D25,

4 colors to begin with:

Red, white & blue
Blue & green
pink & orange
gray

sal

I'm in for at least one (gray, maybe blue/green, I'm not fond of the other colors. thanks for the various colors available!), but that would be great to have one made for less money, like outsourced. There are some folks at our French balisong forum who find the $70 price ridiculous for a pen. A $30 one would sell way more I think, but it's just a piece of advice, I don't even know if it's possible.

I'm eager to get mine! (as well as my Urbans)

I don't really get the kubotan/pens hype myself, but I'm into the balisong/pen hype, we just have different tastes. (and remember, "all that" is not necessarily $70, just buy it from an online knife store)

I'd like to remind everyone that 70 is the MSRP which means you'll be able to buy them probably for around 55. A normal Fisher Pen costs anywhere from 30 to 70 bucks depending on the material used for the casing. So even at 30 dollars for the pen itself is another 25 too much to ask for the quality of a USA made balisong casing? I think everyone needs to stop crying about the price. This is a cool pen in a groundbreaking design that's been worked on for years. Cough up the 55 bucks ya cheap ba$tard$ and stop your whining.

Ill stick to my bic.I can get them for free cant beat that. And when it gets stolen i dont give a shit.
The kubotan pen works for me because it gives the police even less of a case to arrest me on if caught carrying.
A kubotan in the UK can be classed as a dangerous weapon but tryn to charge you with a pen unless you use it to hit someone is not really goin to happen.

$55bucks for an American product retails at like $85+ in Australia :(.

It's funny, but the pen people I know (who think nothing of spending $300 for a hunk of plastic) can't believe someone would spend $75 for a knife. Being addicted to fine pens and knives I can't wait to get my hands on one.

It astounds me that the Baliyo is drawing flack already. It's a pen/toy/widget that's clearly designed to be a fun little manipulation toy, first of it's kind and people are already complaining?

Too expensive? Have you priced some of the other toys out there lately? I'll bet the ones whining about the price of this "pen" have an Xbox laying around. What's the price tag on one of those?

Not a kuboton? Duh it's not a knife either.
it won't forward my emails or play MP3's so it sucks.

It's a brilliant new toy that doubles as a pen. Personally I think it will sell like mad and I commend Spyderco for it's development.

How can you compare a pen to a xbox?.
There are pen kubotans out there and considering this is made by spyderco is it beyond the realms of your imagination that someone thought it may be one?.
You seem to like toys to much for an adult.
I dont use pens that often but can see why someone who does would spend a bit of cash on one although its not for me i like most spyderco products.
Its intresting to see spyderco move in this direction IMO.

I think it's an excellent idea for the following reasons:

1) It's good to diversify.

2) Face it, the people on this forum consider "entertainment" as a factor in knife buying. It makes sense to have products of similar nature that provide it.
