That's a 52100 ball bearing by the way.Better to drill it instead of drifting and distorting the shape of the ball.

The bearing weighed 2lbs.7 oz. now with the handle i'ts a liittle over 3 lbs. so it has plenty of knock down force for Tin Bashing and Bone Busting fun:eek:

Dude . . . you totally need to post YouTube video of you going all Gallagher with that bad MF. As Beavis would say, "Let's BREAK something!!!"

That is really cool looking. It already looks antiqued, nice job. I would like to see a video as well. Maybe a junker car like Dan Winkler did on his website.

That's impressive turn around time! Weren't we talking about this only a few days ago?

pretty neat Steve, where do you find ball bearings that size?
excavator turn table bearing?

So I may ask to many questions...

Did you use plain old drill bit or carbide drill? Seem like it would take a while to drill but you have all kinds of neat old tools in your shop.

Pat i had to anneal it twice to be able to drill the hole it already had a oiler hole in it.It and a few other's came out of a huge electric motor that ran the screw down's on a rolling mill.Used a series of regular ole drill bit's and bacon grease to drill it.And your right i do have a bunch of goodie's in my shop.Old is Good:thumbup:

Turned out so cool.

I would like to see if a bigger hole could be drilled, to get an even bigger shank of wood in there.

It would allow you to take a bit of more weight out of the ball, and have a bit stronger handle/ball juncture.

I have managed to break two different Pick handles where the socket is at least 2 inches. (whittled down the pick handle top to fit the pole axe socket). Though, a 2 inch hole in a 2 3/4 ball might not work.

Of course, I was abusing it, by throwing it both times. Great fun!

With the finish you have on that piece, you could mistake it for a simple ball head walking stick, if were the right length for that.

I can drill up to 2 inch's after that it's a boring bar, this thing the way it is can be swung like a bat or choked up on and use like a hammer.Who would suspect a walking cane for a war club though especially when you've got the bussiness end concealed in you hand

It's very much like an ancient Mesopotamian mace. They were used for smiting back in the Ancient Timez. A very similar mace was used by the Inca.
