Not sure how many people on here follow Paulo Balzano since he's had a few blowouts on some forums. After pre-selling a ton of knives last fall and only producing one prototype, he has finally made a second knife, new model:

*****************UPDATE 10/24/2015**********************

I was prepared to leave this thread as it stands but since it has been bumped I would like to add an update.

I have spoken with Paulo pretty extensively over the past several months after I was encouraged to do so by another person. Clearly several people involved have their own sides to the story but at the end of the day, everyone I know of has been made whole by Paulo. I only know of one person who did not either get their money back or get a knife from him and that person specifically told Paulo to keep the money because he clearly needed it more than the buyer did.

Since then, Paulo has opened up about the people he is working with and has made a pretty conscious effort to ensure he isn't taking money for anything that isn't already complete. He has been contrite and he knows the vast majority is watching his every move to keep him on the straight and narrow.

He's not the first maker to have these issues and he won't be the last.

As the originator of the thread, I thought it might mean something to let people know that even I have been willing to give him another chance.

Yeesh. You'd think he could try a little harder than that to disguise a stolen design...

Ok, looks like there might be more than meets the eye. This knife apparently started out as a knife for Prometheus Design Werx called the Capricorn 66. PDW is owned by Patrick Ma of TAD fame. I'm guessing that's why it looks like a Dauntless.

A very similar design for a very similar company with an extremely similar website. Should have called in the Dauntless II and named the company TAD II.

We'll see when someone actually gets one of these in their hands. The five in the pictures he's posted will probably be the last ones ever made. Then it's back to Instagram knife making, aka posting renderings and vague WIPs.

He auctioned an incomplete knife on instagram. You have to pay and wait until after a knife show for him to ship it. My understanding is they are unfinished because he doesn't even own a grinder.

I'm not familiar with the maker or his history but as soon as I saw the pics of the knife the first thing I thought of was TAD. Why someone wanting to get into this type of industry would do so in such a seemingly half-assed manner is beyond me. Based on what's been said about him not completing work or not even having a grinder, all I can think is at least have the tools to complete a job. What's he expecting the outcome of this to be?

From what I understand it looks familiar for a very good reason, he's not a theif, Paulo doesnt do anything half ass and lol yes he owns a grinder, I've met him in person and seen some of the work he's done, I think if he stays away from drama he will be able to pump out some very impressive work. He's a very nice guy that loves to share his knowledge of knives and design, check out his instagram for more info

Yes. Patrick Ma of PDW gave him the Dauntless design to get his take before he realized Balzano is crazy.

Balzano needs to learn to sell knives after they are complete, not misrepresent how far along he is in building knives so he can pre-sell a bunch of knives because he needs money. Then when it blows up in his face he has no money to refund people and they have to wait months to get it back.

If he can get his crap together and start producing quality pieces then more power to him.

But he is not in a position to be auctioning off knives that don't exist yet for $1000+ and I don't feel bad for anyone that falls for his bs talk.

Also, what knowledge of knives? Judging from the Knife Thursday podcast, he's an artist who got some informal machinist training and decided he wanted to make knives because it was easy. Too bad they had to pull the episode because they didn't want to get mixed up in his drama.

Sounds like a big mess
The knife I saw with his name on the flats of the blade was amazing, I hope he gets it together, I'm still a fan and hope all this BS isnt true, it sounds like youre in the middle of it, hope you didnt get burned

I didn't but a friend of mine did.

That knife you saw with his name in the pocket was the fou-1. He sold 5 of them as being near complete and almost ready to ship. After 4+months of excuses, period asked for their money back. He would send them pictures saying the knife is done, I'll ship soon. The problem was it was just one knife and he was telling 5 different people that was their knife. After they asked for refunds he cried poverty before finally refunding everyone except one. That person has the knife, paid no where close to 1000 for it and he's posted one picture of it on instagram and it's never been seen again.

Sounds like someone I'll never ever buy a knife from. No knife is worth that kind of drama and I don't like to support people like that with my hard earned money.

Ya I saw him up on IG a little while ago... some other maker or uh, knife reviewer or someone recommended to follow him. So I did, but saw the pics and all I could think was "Isn't that a Dauntless??" and started an auction at $1000. Crazy. I think someone ended up with one for $1450! No thanks...

It's a shame that the FOU design is attached to him because it such a tremendously attractive knife. Well hopefully once this all goes belly up and he's out of money, he will sell the design to someone who can actually produce them.

My TAD Dauntless looked very much like that, except that I had a large choil on my blade. The poor fellow really needs to sell some knives, so he can afford a grinder...
ALMOST funny...but not...

Didn't he design a new type of "framelock" for this? I think I remember seeing something about the lock bar milled into the same stock as the backspacer. I don't care much about the drama, but I think that lock is kind of interesting.

this guy just got kicked from the gathering in vegas for selling the same knife to multiple people...... scumbag in my book
