Bamboo Cutter

thanks, and good job resisting... temptation is a powerful force, you're a good man...

but if your collection was smaller and you had lots of surplus money, ya shoulda gone for it :D

Kinda looks like the ancient Japanese design Take Wari used for cutting & splitting bamboo:

Looks also like klewang, pedangs, goloks, some bolos... :D

Welcome kukulza28 to HI. Please allow me to express my thanks for your questions and comments on Asian blades elsewhere which have been most helpful.
Really? well I'm glad my own seeking for information and clarification has helped others...

'tis true :D

nice parang by the way, hopefully it had taken many heads:thumbup:

but not by you... right?

Neat to see a variety of blades from HI!!
Doc

PS: Still LOVE the Biltong that Yandu sent!!!
Did not know I really liked the Khuks 'till I received it!

Received the Bamboo Cutter today. So far.... WOW! Took it out to where we are clearing brush out of the creek & beat on it a bit to make sure it wouldn't break. It didn't.

Had a slight surge of adrenaline when I took a swipe at the branches of a felled tree. Wanted to see how it would chop a 1.5 inch diameter branch near its base. Didn't even take a full swing in deference to all the safety warnings from posters on this site after I bought a 20" AK. Bamboo Cutter went through the branch.... and then through two more that I didn't expect. This is one very impressive blade. Watch for a full review after I go out again with increased respect for the power of this thing.

Can we expect photos? Plleeeeeaaaseee? That way I can get the full effect of what I'm missing. :D

I have to go to work so I can't do a real review today. But I did snap some shots...

The sheath is surprisingly easy to carry on the belt. Much flatter & less bulky than trying to strap on a 20" AK:

Compared to a 27" Thai machete:

Thank ye thank ye for pics galore! With regards to the brass keeper cutting into your palm, do you find your hand sliding down the handle with use? Had I bought the thing up like I was tempted to, I probably would have filed the thing down as best I could, since I doubt I'd be able to jury rig the abalone covering you've got planned.

cool knife. as it's a user, i'd be tempted to file the rough edges of the brass bit and the horn and put a nice smooth blob of epoxy steel over the whole thing (a little carbon black added in to match the horn color better). a quick fix would be to wrap a ring of duck tape around the grip covering the brass (i'd still file smooth the sharp bits).

I must apologize for assuming that the cut on my palm came from the handle of the Bamboo Cutter. After using it again, I realized that the brass plate is below where my grip is. I must have cut my palm in some other part of the activity that day. Its actually not a problem.... my bad, everyone...

Ahhh... well, I wouldn't have been completely surprised with some of the buttplates on certain khuks. I had to do a LOT of filing on my Samsher to get it fairly comfortable. It would give me a little slice in the palm, probably due to handle slab shrinkage.

Nice pictures, sorry for the cut I have already asked Bura to take care of brass bolster probem.

Fellow sharks..... I dug up this old thread to re-recommend the HI Bamboo Cutter. I'm tellin ya folks - this is one heckuva knife. Its the perfect hybrid between a BIG chopper & a machete. It handles way bigger stuff than a machete & its much easier to use on smaller stuff than a chopper. Takes a killer edge with a thick spine behind it & swings easy. Dunno how many will be made available, but I highly recommend that you shark the next one that shows up.
