If anyone wants green bamboo, my wife and I are in process of culling it.

This is a very dense bamboo, approximately 1 1/2" diameter, some pieces are 2". What makes this bamboo uniquely challenging is the wall thickness, there is very little hollow in the pieces, they are at least 1/2" thick or better. If you cut badly, the edge thickness is off, or the blade is soft, you can easily roll the edge. If you catch a knot and don't have perfect form, you can break or catastrophically bend your blade. This is what I use to check big choppers, bowies, swords, khukuris and machetes.

The bamboo can be cut in any length desired, from say 1' to 3'. No payment is desired other than the cost of shipping. I sent some last year to Matt Lamey and he was impressed. PM me, I'll let you know when bamboo is shipping out. This offer is only available to regular Custom and Sword Subforums posters, first come, first sent.

wow, that's some nice heavy wall bamboo

I have a grove in my backyard of 1 1/2 to 2" bamboo but the average wall thickness is usually around 1/4" - still it makes for some great edge testing. beats the heck out of a nice soft 2x4

sounds like you've got some awesome stuff.

I may well be interested in some when you get to shipping.

Wait until you see this, the stuff that you have sounds like what Matt has. He was always going off on how easy bamboo is to cut. I thought he was nuts because the 2" diameter pieces defeat my heavy duty anvil lopper, and need to be SAWN down. The pieces by the rhizomes resist chopping with an axe.

This is not a cutting material for inexperienced cutters, it is practically guaranteed to kill your knife if you cut poorly.

PM or e-mail your address Stephan, I'll get some out to you on Thursday.

STeven, I would very much like to see a picture of you or someone swinging a blade through some of that stuff. Is it possible to see one? I haven't been exposed to much of this kind of thing. Thanks

Mark,

I don't plan on cutting for a couple more weeks, sending some out on Thursday, maybe some of the recipients will oblige.

I've been using some old dry doug fir to check edges. I'd love to try some of this bamboo. PM sent. Thanks for doing this STeven.

Karl, Mike Q. and Stephan....

Your boxes are going out tomorrow.

Russ, I need to pull something special down for you, and treat the material differently to keep the skin intact...Joe and Scott, will ship yours out after the weekend.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Stephen,

Sure thing John, just send me the address and what length you want the pieces cut to, and it'll go out on Monday.

Steven, is there any chance I might be able to get some of this from you, or am I too late? Might make for some interesting scales for my kwaikens...

If you have some 1- 1 1/4" round I would appreciate some 12" pieces.
PM or Email me your PP addy and other details

John Frankl, Joe P and Scott Roush, your packages are ready.

John, can you send e-mail to dethrdr@hotmail.com with address please?

Matt and Russ, I will try to handle your special needs this weekend, as the bamboo must be babied, and wrapped individually in order to preserve the skin.

I'll get everyone else taken care of by next week.

I don't have a paypal account.

I'd love to see some cutting shots with the bamboo. Anyone that got a box willing to shoot a video or take a few pics?
