Bang bang

I don't think we've gotten anywhere near attacking each other. That would cast a completely different set of theses upon the subject. I was ready to drop it after my first post.

"Have you and those of your ilk" <------ These types of categorizations are in most cases taken as derogatory even if that was not the intent.

The intent of my post was preventative and not aimed at you directly.

There is nothing more natural than the naked human form. We all have bodies, naked ones... in this case there is nothing demeaning in the image, it shows a powerful woman in command...could that be the problem? Let's see more. Take off the covers, we don't cover Loveless' logo.

Well, there comes a time when someone needs to say it - I am offended and repelled by your post as it's both demeaning and offensive toward women.

Yet you felt the need to repost the pics that offended you.

You know, about 10 years ago I looked up the definition of ilk because I wanted to make sure I was utilizing it in it's proper form. Sometime between now and then, it has apparently picked up a negative connotation, as none was intended in the statement. I was using it in the context of "type", because everyone seemed to be in agreement that there was nothing wrong with emblazoning a knife with a nude woman and showing it online. Thus the use of "of your ilk". Enough explanation.

In any case, I was way done with this, as I said, after my first post and do not intend to continue any further, even if the Pope himself comes on to castigate me for some reason. Better over and done.

If the attitudes about this issue are typically as stated here by these forumites, there is no place for any more commentary, image posting or posting of any kind by me in this subforum in the future, as it's better I reach out to other subforums. I'm outta here.

"Ilk" is an old Scots term for those of the same family. Not derogatory at all, except in the sense that meanings can change.

Fact is if it was a picture of guy nobody would give zero "f's"

well, for that to be a fact, we'd have to test it and observe.

I propose creating an identical knife. Etched the same as this one, but instead, a buff dude making a kissy face while pointing a gun, with his exaggeratedly huge schlong hanging out

my gut tells me that it wouldn't go over well here :)

Considering what we have seen here today someone may actually be triggered by that and rant how men are being objectified.

They'd be a market for it I'm sure!

It's actually raunchier with the stars covering "the naughty bits," as you put it. Reminds me of the ads for adult cinemas in the newspapers in the '70s (yeah, they had ads for them in the mainstream papers back then, at least in the Bay Area).

The hair and lips are Jessica Rabbit-esque, the rest of her body reminiscent of Vallejo and Frazetta, and the whole affair very outlaw-biker in sensibility. I lean more towards the Classical nude and the Neoclassical (like maritime carvings and scrimshawed work), but I totally get what's going on here with this work. You'd have been picked to paint a bomber in WWII, that's certain.

Holy Jeez! I just took the time to look up your work and found you on FB. IMPRESSIVE! I'll be following you from now on. Thanks for posting this knife. The without it, I'd never have found your work.

Seems like a lot of unnecessary fuss and furor over a silly cartoon. But "ilk", "type", kin or whatever, that generalized statement directed toward "ignorant" views clearly was pejorative and condescending regardless of intent. Let's all just agree to disagree and focus on knives rather than personal philosophies.

At the end of the day, all of this doesn't really matter. It's just a knife that caused a storm in a tea cup, but that certainly won't deter me from etching what ever I want, like it or not. I am free to express myself in any way and form as long as I don't break forum rules and other laws.
By the way, there's nothing that shows that it is not a transgender depicted on the blade, and who knows, it may very well have been commissioned by a female burlesque artist.
