Bang bang

You know, about 10 years ago I looked up the definition of ilk because I wanted to make sure I was utilizing it in it's proper form. Sometime between now and then, it has apparently picked up a negative connotation, as none was intended in the statement. I was using it in the context of "type", because everyone seemed to be in agreement that there was nothing wrong with emblazoning a knife with a nude woman and showing it online. Thus the use of "of your ilk". Enough explanation.

In any case, I was way done with this, as I said, after my first post and do not intend to continue any further, even if the Pope himself comes on to castigate me for some reason. Better over and done.

If the attitudes about this issue are typically as stated here by these forumites, there is no place for any more commentary, image posting or posting of any kind by me in this subforum in the future, as it's better I reach out to other subforums. I'm outta here.

Now, there is an appropriate response. If only it was made before the comments. If something offends you then don't participate in it. No need to try to change others to fit into your view of whats "right"

2finger, you built a fine knife in my opinion. That must take some serious skill to do an image like that and I can appreciate the effort you must've put into it. I look forward to seeing more.

I guess I do not understand the issue.

It took me less than sixty seconds here in a quick search to find NUMEROUS knives posted here in this very forum in the past with engraving depicting nude or topless females with bare breasts, etc. I did not find any negative commentary about the nudity. Bob, you know I like you, but I DID find a comment by you on one of those knives engraved with the figure of a bare-breasted female where you called it "Absolutely beautiful." So maybe there is something else going on with this particular knife . . .

If done tastefully (and that is a matter of personal taste, obviously) I have zero issue with nudity . . . except . . . Personally, I am pretty much tired of all of the "nude girls" engraving on knives, as I created a minor stir by saying out loud to some folks at Solvang in 2014 where there were a couple of folks trying sell such knives (oops!). It is just way overplayed at this point, IMO.

I definitely do NOT agree with any comments that if something offends you then you should not comment. The whole PURPOSE of these threads is to invite comments - not to sing Kumbaya. When you post up your knife here, you are inviting comments - positive or negative. Presented politely, but still presented. If you do not want comments (and I am not saying this applies to the OP here, because I do not believe that it does, but just in general), then post your knife and immediately lock the thread. Otherwise, it is fair game. And other than a moderator making sure that posts comply with the rules here, IMO it is not appropriate to tell others when they are not supposed to post, and what they are and are not supposed to say in their posts. That only starts a circular debate which has no end . . . as evidenced by my very own comment here suggesting that it would be good if people would not post here telling someone else that they should not post if something offends them (see, I appreciate the irony :)).

That having been said . . . and I am trying to say this as politely as I can . . . my only problem with the knife is that it looks to me like a crude knife with crude etching. Too many visible pins, and they are not attractive or even aligned. The etching has all sorts of jagged lines or edges. Even recognizing that it is supposed to be in a cartoon style, her lips look bizarre and I have no idea why her legs are just chopped off like that. The blade and handle seem to me to be rudimentary. No offense to the maker is intended, and I am sure that he has made many other knives that I would appreciate more than this one (like the veggie chopper). I am just explaining my opinions of this particular knife, and the reasons for those opinions. But DSFDF and I am sure there are others out there who really like it.

Why bring in religion as well?

I wasn't going to comment in this thread however everything Ken says (especially in bold) sums up my same thoughts on the subject.

Well, there comes a time when someone needs to say it - I am offended and repelled by your post as it's both demeaning and offensive toward women.

Take it to social media and tell the SJW you've been offended by the nude female form, they'll take up the cause.

There is nothing demeaning of the nude on or off the blade.

Fact is if it was a picture of guy nobody would give zero "f's"

What is demeaning is thinking less of a women because she is nude.

Much respect for the naked!

There is more harm projecting shame on women due to nudity.

Fact is I and my ilk have the utmost respect for women no matter what state of dress they are in.

This sums up my opinion! it wouldn't be my taste but I cant be offended by it,we were all born naked!

If you click on 2finger's user name to bring up his profile, you can go to Find latest started threads.
These will show you more of his work, perhaps without the emotional overtones of this design.

I find it funny that Betzner cries about objectifying women but then uses the connotation of "T&A" to describe the female anatomy. Hey pot, meet kettle!

I showed this to my wife, and her comment was 'Oh my God, is that ever cool!"

We aren't easily offended. I can see why this might offend some people, especially traditionally minded folk, so no disrespect to those people either.

I'm looking forward to see more of 2finger's work. As his skills continue developing, I'm hoping to see some great things. I'm inspired to look into etching myself.

Thank you,
I will post a WIP in the appropriate section of the forum for those interested in trying acid etching.

These days, righteous indignation is fashionable:rolleyes:
This. Hysterical knee jerk PC is everywhere.

Why bring in religion as well?

Ohh boy...

Some people are just LOOKING for something ....anything to be offended about these days.

A while ago a forum member sold some (beautiful) knives on the sales forum. The forum member stated, that he/she sold them because he/she had decided, that he/she didnt want to own any knives with religious symbols.

At the time I shook my head in disgust but of course just ambled on - you are not supposed to comment in sales posts anyway.

But what the H! Why not just sell the friggin' knives without the comment about religion - the forum member obviously felt a burning NEED to make his/hers sentiments so very clear to us. He/she just HAD to wave the PC banner.

Its so very much fashionable to be offended about nudes ...or religion...or what ever.

But seriously; let atheists be non-believers, let religious people have their religion. Loathsome PC permeates social media and most walks of life as it is.

I have an interest in knives and no interest in noxious, hysterical knee jerk PC - cant we just talk blades here. Its called BladeForums for a reason.

The OPs knife is just fine. From a pure utility aspect, the knife looks like it would do stellar service. This thread peaked my interest and I looked up the makers work (no, not that Maker - no need for anybody to get their panties or briefs in a bunch:)) and there are some nice knives there.

I encourage others to do likewise. At least the OPs knives got some attention - so some good came of this.

We need to stick to discussion of the knife and not other members. Thanks

Jason

nice knife, I'm more interested in how or what the process was to etch the picture, can you elaborate please! was it like a Shaw and Leibowitz process?
