i'm thinking of buying another 2 knives for $5 each 2 combine postage. looks like a good starting out Australian maker to me. what do u think?

from first impressions on the design, materials and price i would expect it to be a ver y poor performing knife, but if you bought it just because you like the look of it, then shine it up and put it on a shelf and i'm sure it'll be fine

Looks like garbage to me. Cheap knives have their place, of course. This is definitely one of them. Don't expect much from it.

I think y'all are judging it purely on aesthetics and the box it came in. I don't care for the styling, but how do you know anything about its material? It's unfortunate that the poster showed the box and told the price, or we might have got more objective opinions.
Honestly, you don't always "get what you pay for." There are knives out there that out-perform others that are priced four times as high.

Not a bad looking knife. If you're happy I'm happy. I wouldn't expect a lot of performance out of it though.

Thats all true... but look at the venting on the blade... look at the profile, look at the finish. You can tell alot about a knife by its looks.

Also I'm a little confused about buying more... It looks like you have 3 more in that box?

Regardless if you like it, thats all that matters. I have cheaper, worse looking knives than that all over the place.

There are no knife companies that I know of that can produce a folder outside of Asia for less than $5.00. Doubly so for upcoming knifemakers/companies just getting started.

Cheap metal and metal-work looks cheap. If the price is as low as he says it is, the quality of this thing is no higher than that of similar Chinese and even Pakistani pieces -- photos of which exhibit the same telltale aesthetics.

it's made in Oz?
does it have a makers name or mark?
or just sold by someone here?
sorry, but it 'looks' like just another cheap ebay knife that won't take much use.. but if you bought it just to look at and you're happy with how it looks thats all that matters

Just the inconsistency of the dimensions on the four cut outs on the blade seems to tell a story if you ask me.

I guess you have to weigh functionality versus price, even on the cheap knives. For instance, shipping fees aside, I can't even begin to see this knife being a better value that a $30 Browning Ice Storm. Especially since I have disassembled two of my Ice Storms now and I know how they are built. That knife is a killer deal for $30. The fit, form and function of those knives is easily approaching triple what they cost.

Even the cheap <$20.00 Chinese/Asian knives www.bladeplay.com sells are pretty good deals. I have a lot of experience with some of them and they work pretty well for a "your life won't depend on it" cheap-o knife.

This is oft true, but $5.00? I don't think that applies in this case. I have "stolen knives on E-bay, a couple of time I paid far less than they were worth because the seller posted them incorrectly but you don't find that kind of deals on multiple purchases of the same knife. I doubt I could get a unbelievable deal on a Loveless then turn around and buy a few more at the same price...be nice tho...

Havent heard of these in the AKC members magazines, or email's... who was the manufacturer?

If it is good for your great. However I would be very surprised if it was Australian made - with that style or price

It's very difficult for a maker to produce a safe and quality folder and be able sell it for $5. Because of that, there's a high probability that it's an unsafe tool for use. If you bought it for display, then I think you're fine as long as you like it. If you bought it for use, then I would caution that you be very careful with it so you don't harm yourself.

If you want a folder that you can use for $10, get an Opinel and you can rest assured that you have a very effective tool in your hand.

Good points.

With the cost of labour in A that surely was not made here - and would be illegal to carry here as well in most contexts - certaily if the police found somone carrying a tacticool knife like that with a good reason there would be trouble.

Opinel =razor sharp carbon steel blade with real character

That is not made in Australia, its obviously a cheap chinese or pakistan made knife.
