Bark River Buying Binge

I don't have any yet...but I bought 3 last week and should have them today or tomorrow.

OMF (orange g-10)
OMF (green canvas micarta)
mini-canadian (antique stag)

Does any one have an OMF they can comment on? I've handled a mini-canadian but not an OMF.

Now the discounted retail price for a "kitchen utility" with natural handles is $172 - $217!

The K/U knife was one of the most labor intensive knives BRKT has made recently. I'm guessing that is reflected in the price. Not to mention that cost for materials, etc, continue to rise. I remember buying gasoline for 21 cents a gallon! :D

Another spirit dampener, and again it could be my imagination, but I seem to be seeing fewer and fewer for sale in natural materials.

Mike makes the knife/handles based on what his dealers order. His dealers order what their customers have ordered plus what they think they can sell. Order your knife ahead of time in the natural material you want, and it will be there!

The only one I have (so far) is the Fox River in black micarta from the BST forum. Sweet little knife, and it has performed admirably in the limited time I have had it. I need to get a new sheath for it, since I am not a big fan of the factory leather sheath.

It was used when I got it, but still in great condition and very sharp. I am thinking about sending it back to BRKT just to see how sharp they can make it. :)

Hey Storl,

You're just going to have to learn how to sharpen it. It's truly as easy as can be and all you need is some 800, 1000, 1500, and 2000 wet/dry, a leather strop and some green rouge. The factory won't normally get them as sharp as you can yourself.

A month or so ago, I had an Impala Horn Highland Special. They have no pins. I was hacking away at some pecan and one of the Impala slabs came loose. It was just epoxied on. I sent it to Bark River with the suggestion that perhaps Impala horn would be better with pins. WHen I got it back, it had solid pins! Also, I had put a patina on it. BRKT buffed that off and re-sharpened the blade. It was sharp but not nearly as sharp as I can get it....not even nearly.

Learn and do it yourself is my recommendation.

i just received my 3rd this morning.

so far
mikro slither w/ orange handles
mikro canadian w/ antique stag
mini canadian w/ ivory

I had more, but I currently have three. A Bravo 1 with black and green micarta scales, Sandstorm with green scales and a Highland Special with black micarta scales. Really want a Gameskeeper with burl scales, and a Mountaineer.

Highland Special in black micarta was my first Barkie. Now I have a Gameskeeper in Bocote, a Mini-Skinner in Impala horn, a PSK in maroon linen, a Bravo-1, Mikro-Canadian, and Fire steel in green canvas micarta, a mikro-slither in Bocote, and a Fox River coming in Stag Bone.

Does it ever end? Apparently not!

My Barkie inventory:

Bravo-1: green elder burl
Highland Special: black Impala Horn
mini-Skinner: black canvas micarta
mini-Skinner: Oregon Myrtle burl
mini-Canadian: aged copper burl

That is truly one of the things that sets BRKT apart. They are an excellent knife company.

I think I'm in love with the Canadian Camp Knife :) However, I will have to pinch my pennies in order to get one.

I too have been seduced by the "Bark Side." Last winter I got a Mini Canadian (green micarta/hollow pins) to use as a fixed blade edc pocket knife. It is sharp, easy to keep that way, and stout enough to treat as a big knife.

In the mail at this very moment is a new Northstar in curly maple that I should have before the weekend. I spent a lot of time deciding on this knife as an all-purpose, go-to knife so I'm pretty excited. If my wife notices what I paid for it, I'm likely to be kicked out of the house (which would be the perfect opportunity to practice a little bushcraft).;)

I'm sure I'll end up with a few others in time. The Lil Nessy looks interesting . . .

See Honey, I don't have to many, I'm just getting started.

You got to try the TUSK.

My new Northstar was waiting when I came home from work today!:) It is beautiful with its curly maple handle, and it feels good in the hand. It is also surprisingly light. It is just the right size for an all-purpose woods and camping knife - large enough for most work, small enough to carry easily and use with dexterity. The edge is satisfactorily sharp, but there is room for a little improvement with some fine grit wet/dry. The sheath is by Sharpshooter, and is of decent quality.

I'm hoping to have a chance to take it into the woods this weekend.
