Alright I find myself liking these knives. I see you guys putting up gorgeous pictures of these fantastic designs with wonderful steel options but when I go to my trusty online shop their pics suck thus making the models less attractive and have boring steel choices

So to the point, I have a multiple part request. I'd like pictures of your barkies, suggestions of models I might like, some sort of list on the steels they use, and the scoop on where I can order them :D

Boring Steel choices? Whats wrong with A2 and 154cm? There prices seem about right to me. Great quality and amazing warranty/cs. That said I only have one since I don't collect fixed blades but I send it to them just last week to get reground to a full height convex. They are doing it for return shipping cost only.

Bark River might just be the ultimate "semi-custom" knife maker,

...hundreds of possible combinations of knife design, choice of steel, and handle material.

You don't give us much to go on.

What do you intend to do with this knife?

I have 5 Bark River knives. The 2 I use the most are a "Mini Canadian" & a "Journeyman" . I carry the Mini C in a pocket sheath from Knivesshipfree.com. For dealers I have had outstanding service from Knivesshipfree , DLT Trading & Jagged Horizon Knives. All of these places have good pictures and all the specs.

Knives Ship Free, The Knife Connection, both offer free shipping, and a great selection of Barkies. Sometimes Dale at TKC will have Custom Barkies. I got 2 Custom Highland Specials and a Custom TUSK all in CPMS35VN from Dale.
I see that DLT has some good prices as well.
Bark River now has the Bravo 1 in CPM 154, check TKC for those, and soon will release it in 3V and CPMS35VN, that's not boring!

IN this pic, there's a STS-3 and a PSK in 154CM.

Northstar A2 steel  ,i use it on light hiking, but you can found Barkie for almost anything,if you could be more specific....

Excellent quality knives, vey good steels, and great customer service = no complaints from me.

All these photos have been posted before and I'm sure some members are getting tired of seeing them, but you asked for pics, you get pics.

I have around ten Barkies at the moment, though some more are in the mail. I buy all my knives through Knivesshipfree and have had nothing but excellent service and great prices. If KSF doesn't have the model or handle choice I'm after I have also used the-knife-connection. Also a great online dealer. Nearly all of my Bark Rivers are in A2, except for the Little Carver and Liten Bror which is in CPM3V. I'll be picking up the Aurora in 3V when it comes out (it's that good a design that I'll have two) and possibly the Bravo1 or Bravo1.5 when it comes out in 3V too. Here are some of my BRKT collection:

I should add - what are you looking for in the a blade design? Camping utility, hunting, suburban utilty?

i usually only use knifeworks and knife center, recently ordered the seb through tkn. knifeworks only has a couple models in a2, thats whats boring. some 3v, 154cm, s35vn etc etc is what i'm looking for!

i know they have em, but knifeworks wasn't giving me much and google hates me.

as for what i'm looking for. i want a 3-5" blade with a handle equal to or shorter than the blade. i like the bravo1 but i only see it in a2 and frankly i'd like some more options!

basically it'll end up being my fishing knife more than likely. i'd like something i can gut and behead trout with, cut branches out of my way, kindling. i like that camp ax... where on earth do i find that?!

i keep seeing you guys mention custom barkies... how do i go about getting me some of that action

You'll be after some hallowed CPMS35VN then!

The Bravo1 will be coming out in S35VN soonish. The thing you have to realise with Bark River is that they don't produce knifes on the scale of large brands like COld Steel. They have one workshop and they produce 'runs' of certain designs according to their own schedule. This means that online dealers will have limited stock in particular models that haven't been refreshed in a while.

A2 steel is extremely tough, which is what most of BRKT knives are all about. 3V is tougher but neither are stainless which for fishing trips you might want.

You can also check out Barknivens - Fallkniven F1's with custom Bark River Handles. I just ordered one! A new alotment just hit KSF.

does anyone know what they run their s35vn at hardness wise? i know s30v see's an extreme increase in edge retention at 60+ hrc vs 59 etc...

i don't know if its cousin s35vn shares that same sweet spot or not

its a camp knife. doesn't need to be overly tough. gotta cut like the dickens all day and not lose a tip along the way.

if i need to hack up firewood i'll pick up that camp ax. cuz my god is that sexy for one, and two its just plain practical.

as for stainless, eh. it'd be nice. s35vn at say 60 hrc would be ideal. but the big bravo1 in 3v would make me a happy happy boy too.

i guess i was just looking for some kind of comprehensive list [with pics :D] of models and steels seeing how what i've seen of online catalogs has been excruciatingly limited

that said i haven't had a chance to check out the dealers you guys have suggested yet, doing so in a separate browser as we speak though

There is a production schedule on another er, knife, forum thing. It lists all the models and the steels for those runs.

Incidentially this might help, Mike Stewart uses this to show the different attributes of the steels he is offering at the moment in comparison to other more common steels.

Steel_Chart_8_A.jpg

that is interesting.

so by that chart, what i'm looking for is their s35vn. well what models do they currently offer in that steel?

looking at kniveshipfree i'm finding myself liking the highland special, bravo1, and gunny

any more i should keep an eye out for????

alright, i think i know what i want specifically now

if i could get a bravo 1 in s35vn with linerless jade handles that would be perfect.

i also see its quite thick. you guys mention customization... is there anyway to make this knife exist with a ffg or a really high saber? .215 is down right ridiculous haha. i'd like to see it closer to 1/8" or 3/32" or something less ax like :o

how do i make that happen?

ugh. maybe i want the highland special more, and i see it comes in s35vn but they're out of stock at ksf...

ideally i'd like to buy 1. JUST ONE. and a camp ax. with a combo sheath. and matching handle scales...

help me do this hahahahaha. otherwise i may just f*** my credit beyond repair

Welcome to the addiction. Choosing which one is half the fun!

I believe the Highland Special in S35VN was a limited prototype run so it sold out fast. More steels will be offered in S35VN as time progresses. I love my Highland in A2. The handle design fits my hands perfectly and doesn't feel overbuilt in any way.

You can ask BRKT to customise your knives if you'd like. The most common being the removal of the thumbramp on the Bravo1. You can also ask them to put a full height convex grind on it too.

i like the thumb ramp actually, probably why i'd lean bravo 1 or gunny over the highland special.

i'd just like a thinner blade with a full height convex. with s35vn. and linerless jade g10. and a matching camp ax. with a sheath that houses both.

ugh. never should have posted this thread. i was better off thinking they were impossible to find

If you want a thinner Bravo1 get a Gameskeeper, or a Montana Guide, which is a Gameskeeper sans guard. This was the basis of the Bravo1. Montana Guides are about to hit the shelves too so you'll have a huge range of handles to choose from.
