bark river knife company

If you want a thinner Bravo1 get a Gameskeeper, or a Montana Guide, which is a Gameskeeper sans guard. This was the basis of the Bravo1. Montana Guides are about to hit the shelves too so you'll have a huge range of handles to choose from.

you're just bound and determined to spend my money. knife hooker i will call you

lol jk. you're very helpful, my wallet just hates you for it. and my bank account. and my credit score.

ksf says the stock thickness is the same? and i am rather partial to the thumb ramp haha

I guess i was just looking for some kind of comprehensive list (with pics) of models and steels seeing how what I've seen of online catalogs has been excruciatingly limited.

Bark River has, and does, make such a variety of knives that what you seek is not easily provided.

As one who has studied the Bark River wave sweep over the knife world, I would say that spending all your free time catching up on the past posts on that Bark River forum would still not quite give you what you seek; Bark River products are ever changing, pulling a shot on one thats available could
leave you the jones, but other great options are just around the corner.

Buying a Bark River is not like buying a regular production knife; they are behind the demand curve and only make the knives their dealers order; they have no stock in house and generally ship their product to the dealers the day it's made; they come up with dozens of new models every year and models that don't sell don't get a second run; the dealers drive the demand for earlier designs.

That said, if you see a knife on the Bark River production schedule that you want a Bark River dealer can pre-order a special knife just for you; handle materials and even custom blade changes are often part of the package; not a custom knife maker, but working with their dealers and cutomers they come very close for those of us in the know. ;)

A fine example,

...a one of a kind custom based on a short run of ten inch Bowies,

..the Loveless camp knife style blade teamed with the fully contoured Moran style handle was just what I wanted, the Bark River crew crafted a working tool better then I even hoped for.

...folks now seek a "Big Mike" Bowie.

How friggin' cool is that.

PS- Thanks to Derrick (KSF) and Mike (BRK) I only paid 68 percent of the MSPR on that custom knife,

...that's even cooler.

Bark River and their dealer's take care of us knife-nuts.

i wish there was a "my wallet is screaming in agony" smiley cuz you sir just ruined me.

will you email me how you made that happen? who i need to talk to? cuz... i'm gonna start saving up for my custom bravo/camp ax combo

also, another question. i love the look of their burl handles, but how well do they hold up? it'll be my fishing/hunting/camping set up and while the burls are pretty, i don't want them getting all nasty from fish and animal guts etc...

seriously. never should have posted this thread. so effed. trying to decide which bills i'm skipping over the next month or two....

My friend, the no nonsence Bark River warranty covers the finest burls the same as Micatra or G10,

...you mess it up, they fix it or replace it. Period.

Don't sweat the hanlde material choice, buy what calls to you. :D

well i guess all thats left is for you tell me how to get the bravo 1 with a full height convex in the highland special thickness in s35vn with burl handles and a matching camp ax... i'll probably have to hit the custom scene for the combo shoulder sheath i'm envisioning though

OK, your not quite getting it yet.

The Camp Axe, be it the Glen Eagle, the Scagle Style, or the earlier modded hatchet are most likely one of a kind production items.

I doubt you wil get a new one made to order, but that could change.

The Bravo-1 is scheduled to be made in CPM S35VN, and even tough you could pre-order changes in blade profile, getting one in thinner stock is not going to happen; if you want thinner stock start with a blade in the thickness you want, i.e., they will not cut a one of a kind blank in any thckness you desire, a Bravo-1 will always be the thick assed mother it is.

Study grasshopper, and you will learn.

...Oh, here's my Camp Axe.

There's no doubt they're making quality stuff. I just wish their handles looked a little less like kitchen cutlery. Just my personal opinion, though.

That's a hard comment to resond to.

Kitchen Cutlery is design for prolongred use by people who use knives.

...I like my knives to have that feature.

If you are looking for "cool lookin' knives" that don't work well, search in the more tactical forums.

hi mike what do you think a2 betwen the bark river and one piece from cr ?which better? i have a mk vi from cr.

Excellent quality knives, vey good steels, and great customer service = no complaints from me.

All these photos have been posted before and I'm sure some members are getting tired of seeing them, but you asked for pics, you get pics.

I have no idea what you are asking,

...my best advice would be to seek professional help.

Not having hiked the land between the Bark River and the One Piece From CR it's hard to give you advice in this matter.

I favor the ridge covered terrain I find close to home.

Sorry, no dis-respect implied.

I own just two Bark Rivers:

Bark Rivert FT Kephard and Woodland Special. I love both knives. Kephart is knife that bumped out my traditional puukos away from Buscrafting and that is alot to say. I hope that some day I have afford to buy more.

thank you mike : becasue of the blade profile, so i guess the one piece is more sharp.the heattreament are all great.

well as for the camp ax, they're in stock at a dealer.

and i wasn't thinking it'd be completely new stock. just ground down a bit.

If I remember correctly, the CPMS35VN from Bark River, on my Custom Highland Specials is heat treated to 60-61, as recommended by Crucible.
I think BRK will do well by making other knives in this steel.

I'll have to wait till the bravo1 comes out in s35vn and then talk to brk or a private party about having it reprofiled a little thinner. Since their axes are no longer in production, I'll have to either have the ax rehandled or match the bravo to the ax

Which brk dealer is best to deal with as far as communication and taking pre orders

If anybody could get you what you want, I supect it will be Derrick (KSF),

...he's talked Mike Stewart into building a few special things for me.

But there are a bunch of top notch Bark River dealers that can pre-order for you.

I find that having a good relationship with my dealer pays off when it comes to these special requests.

Thanks Dale,

Those few are the tip of the iceberg, and you have provided a few of my knives along with some the great customer service I referred to.:thumbup:
