Bark River Little Canadian Action

The Lil' Canadian is really impressive. The blade shape is great and the ergonomics are excellent for a knife this size. For me, as a matter of fact, it's leaps and bounds ahead of the Canadian Special in terms of ergonomics.
It's not boxy at all and the finger grooves are much less deep than it's big brother's. The first two grooves accomodate fatter fingers much better.
The Canadian Special has the best blade of the four BRK I own but it just doesn't fit my hand right, it seems narrow where it should be large and vice-versa.

I would also buy a stainless version of the Lil' Canadian in a heartbeat. It would be my dream edc knife.

As much as I'm impressed with the 3V, I won't be buying one if IMO the handle limits the amount of continous use the knife can be put to.

Kind regards
Mick

I absolutely agree with you Mick. If you want a knife to perform, it has to fit comfortably in extended use.:thumbup::thumbup:

Great review.
I have been carrying my Lil' Canadian daily.
I can't wait to get it out for a good woods test.

As much as I love the blade on this knife,

…the handle stops it from being a home run for me.

In my hand it is a three finger knife with four finger groves.

I too look forward to the release of the next 3V Bark River;

…if the rumors of a “Lil’ Brother” to the Aurora turn out to be true,

…it could be quite a knife.

Big Mike

Great pics! I love knives about that size.

Couple questions... Do the finger grooves ever get in the way? Also, the steel seems thick to me for a small knife, does it feel right, or would it be better thinner?

Thx!

The Lil Canadian is not a kitchen slicer. It cuts in a VERY similar fashion to the Gunny and it cuts VERY well. I think the whole idea behind it was having a very tough powerhouse in a small package. There is no question the knife can be abused.

Big Mike makes a good point. Very large hands (unlike mine...I wear a size 9 usually, sometimes a 10 if the glove runs small) like Mike has would not benefit from a handle like this. For my uses, in a variety of grips, it is perfectly fine and comfortable. My hand settles in nicely to the contoured fingers. I did not notice any hotspots or ridges digging into my hand either. I personally feel it is a very good knife and like the design. :thumbup:

I second every word! :thumbup::thumbup::)

You think I could talk him into making me one with a flat grind? ;) That knife looks awesome, I NEED ONE

I am positive it would be "no". :D

Bark River does convex only.

TH, How big a hand you got? My hand spread is an 1/8" short of 10" from tip to tip, thumb to pinky.

Being "into" rifles and kindly "outof" blades as of late, I haven't been perusing DLT or KSF lately. I had no idea there was a 'Lil Canadian out!

Very nice review and great photos! The mini-Canadian is my favorite of the smaller-bladed Barkies, so the 'Lil Canadian might be right up my alley.

I've got some catching up to do.......

Great review Jeff! I gotta say that is one of the most unique and beautiful handles I've seen on a Barkie. And we all know that's saying a lot:)
