This, actually, is one of my pet peeves. People post in a thread or start a new thread, with their pictures. After some time passes, they remove the pictures, rendering the thread, that might have been useful in archives, useless. If you're going to post pictures, leave them up so that future members, etc. can access, enjoy and learn from the thread.

There are a variety of possible reasons the photos aren't available after 4+ years;

- It could be that the person has actually taken them down deliberately for some reason, as you say,

- It's also possible that the hosting account was cancelled. For example, it may have been a paid subscription, which the owner no longer piad for, and thus the photos are no longer hosted/available.

- The links may be broken. Photobucket is particularly notorious for this over time.
