Bark River Mountain Man Dagger?

Up from the depths.

I was surprised to find I didn't care for it after I got it! I was expecting a little thicker stock...think after my exposure to good hard use knives, my perceptions have shifted. It felt sooooo light, I just couldn't see pushing it. It went off to a new home and here I be...daggerless again!

Too bad it wasn't to your liking, but hey, that happens from time to time.

Got your eye on a replacement yet??

Not as yet...the Garm maybe? But, if I go that small, mybe the AG Russell Sting...it's so cheap, I could buy it and beat the snotz out of it and see...maybe a Ek off ebay...

A 5" quality dagger?????

Well the Garm would have quality covered, I believe the blade is solid VG10, not laminated. It is a fairly small knife though, similar in size to the Sting, or an Al Mar Fang I.

I think modern day daggers have been swept into the offense/defense weapon niche. Not sure they are designed to really take a beating.

Traditionally I think they evolved as hunting/skinning knives. Back when steel didn't hold an edge nearly as well as today's knives I can see the extra edge being a real advantage when dressing out game.

As a hunter/skinner and light duty bushcrafter they will probably work well, but that is just an opinion.
