I got this off the bay the other day and took it with me today. I hope it is a true Robeson and not a Queen made. Maybe Charlie can chime in.[ end quote]

It looks like a later "real" Robeson to me, Invoice. 1950s or so.
The "sawcut" handles on yours are different than mine, which are smooth. I don't know what that means.

Here I have added some pictures:
In the first picture, I have compared a later Robeson to a Case from the same era. Note the Robey is slimmer, and more rounded at the ends, like yours.
It may be a Utica or Camillus sub-contract, well before Queen started making them.

The bottom two in this second picture are later Robesons as well.

I had owned Barlows in the past but always thought of them as strictly economy daily carries. I got an email offer for this one and decided to take the plunge. It's a traditional pattern in latest state of the art materials. The blade, liners and bolsters are all stainless, the covers are layered carbon fiber and blue G-10. It is solid and weighty, very solid in the hand, about 6-7 pull on the clip and solid 7 on the pen. It's hard to capture the look on camera but these snaps do fairly well.

I'm really loving this Canal Street Barlow! Do you know how many of this version they made? They did an amazing job of mixing old and new on this one.

i love my barlow sheepfoot blade sitting just the way it is. so easy to use and open the blade and the handle melts into my hand.

Not sure but it's still available on at least one website. Not sure if the dealer is BF approved but if you Google Midnight Galaxy English Barlow it should pop right up.

That BF Stag covered Barlow sure grabs my eye. A couple more shots would be welcome any time :-)

Here are a few photos of a Boker Barlow I got off ebay for cheap, under $20. The seller said it had never been sharpened and had bone handles. It has lots of scratches all over from being cleaned with some kind of abrasive, possibly a scotchbrite wheel, not sure. The plastic covers seem to have been melted with a torch on one side. The tang stamp has the number 492.

The good points to the knife; solid snap, no wobble, sharp blades with nice steel and a long swedge on the primary.

It has lots of scratches all over from being cleaned with some kind of abrasive, possibly a scotchbrite wheel, not sure. The plastic covers seem to have been melted with a torch on one side. The only tang stamp is the number 492. Overall a good lesson on how little a photo on the bay reveals, and what dishonesty exists among some of the vendors. This knife was sold by 30yearmanusmc.

There are some good points to the knife, solid snap, no wobble, sharp blades with nice steel and a long swedge on the primary. Although it has 3 pins on the handle, the covers are not bone. I believe all 2 pin knives are plastic handled, and all bone covers are held by 3 pins not 2, but obviously not all 3 pin handles are bone, some are plastic. Live and learn.

Those handles look for all the world like core or marrow stag!! Are you sure they are plastic, Jon??

I am a true novice, the opposite of your expertise on the subject, but they definitely would have fooled me by these pictures as well. I am most drawn to bone handled barlows, of all patterns, and this definitely draws me. I like the "grain" of the covers. I love the tree brand bolster stamp too!

Looks like cancellous bone to me. I'd be very surprised to learn that you could produce that effect by melting any synthetic.
Anyway it's another one you can fuss with ;-)

Here are a few of my recent barlow finds, from the top, a late 1920's Remington UMC barlow, next is a 1930's Winchester and finally at the bottom a 1930's Winchester Grandaddy barlo.

No, Im not sure enough to guarantee it. I would offer to send it to you for verification, but I suspect you may have your hands a bit full for that, so Im going to ask Gev first.

If thats plastic I will eat my shorts...lol They would of fooled me, Jon!!

Thanks, Im glad to be in the company of like minded fools :-)
You can see how misleading the photos are by emailing me your address. I would welcome your opinion on what the knife covers are made of. If you agree they are plastic, I don't want the knife back, you can give it away. If you think it IS Marrow Stag, which is what I was hoping, consider it an Xmas present. And I will eat some crow, but not my shorts :-)
