I will post vendor pics of two Barlow's I ordered today....

I will post them in their native environment as soon as they arrive.

P.S. I actually have one more to order, and it's a Case Crandall Cutlery Barlow Razor. I'll do that tomorrow after I verify it's in stock. I never order before I speak with someone as to availability....

Are those "Family Brands" knives by Case, Alnamvet?
(the Standard and Crandall?)

I just received a barlow as a gift from another member here. It is an Imperial Mark Twain, an inexpensive knife but would certainly do to play mumbley peg, peel an apple, sharpen a pencil or any other minor daily chores. This one has stagged Delrin covers as opposed to the usual sawcut Delrin covers of the more familiar production Imperial barlow.

First, the original sales flyer:

Mine is lightly used but still has plenty of useful life left.

Thanks Jon! My modest collection of barlows was among the knives stolen some months back. Marks were Fulton, Sta-sharp, Kwik Kut, Craftsman etc.

Codger you must the most knowledgeable person on knives I've ever seen. How long have you been into knives? Thank you for all your posts.

Into knives"? I grew up on a farm in the Missisippi River Delta not far from Memphis and always had a knife of sorts. I have had to give up a lot of hobbies and found that I enjoy knife research, patterns, people, companies. So that is what I do in my spare time. I find primary period resources like catalogs, then search out the knives in them as best I can. And no, I am not the most knowledgable by a long shot.

Here is a catalog cut of one of the prewar barlows I mentioned sold by Sears.

I should have said... Codger will be the first to tell you that he's not the most knowledgeable, but he does know a lot and he freely shares that knowledge. I've learned much by reading his posts... from recent ones to the ones archived.

In honor of St. Patty's Day, here's a little Case Greenbone from the XX era complete with iron bolsters. Notice the line near the base of the cover in the first pic, looks like it was a board knife as well! Probably how it maintained such good condition after all these years. Enjoy!

Yes they are. I really think the Family Brands knives get a wee bit more personal attention then the standard Case lines; they arrive perfectly clean, authoritative and without reservations, walk and talk, blades perfectly centered without rub, and I prefer the Roger's jigging on the Crandall and Standard knives which are different then the regular Case line jigging.

This is a fun one here, it's an old John Primble Belknap HDW. I've seen a lot of Primble barlows but not many like this one. It's got some nice squared off bolsters, cool tang stamps, and really interesting covers. Not sure if the covers are bone with a strange style of jigging or old stag? Enjoy!
