Thanks, Alnamvet!

Cool Barlow, Nick. Looks jigged, then buffed!

Here's a barlow I found at an antique store. Tang stamp says Boker but I have no idea what type of wood or what period of manufacture.

Here's a real purdy Queen barlow from the era when the company used "Queen City" as their tang stamp, 1922-1945. I really like the sawcut covers and color of the bone on this one. Enjoy!

Nice Boker, I'm not sure what the handle covers are either but here is a listing of boker tang stamps. I have a couple myself with the tree brand stamp on the bolster. Those are my favorites.

Here's a nice old Russell with iron bolsters and smooth bone covers. I really like the color variation in these covers, makes this barlow jump right outta the drawer! I'm not sure what the age is on that tang stamp, any info would be greatly appreciated... Enjoy!

A cursory search of my hardware jobber catalogs showed that the Russell name was straight in the early part of last century. The first occurence of the curved mark that I found was in the Bingham Hardware catalog of 1941. This is not conclusive, as the mark might have been used earlier, and most likely also later.

^^ Great, thanks Codger!!! I figured you'd probably have some good background info.

John Goins was rather vague, saying both straight and curved marks were used c. 1800's - 1941. Sorry I can't be more specific for you.

The 1904 Mclung Hardware catalog shows a straight mark on Russell barlows. My resources between the two dates are yet sparse on Russell.
