My first knife, given to me by my grandfather when I was 8 y.o. was a Queen barlow.
Still have it, but don't carry it (for the last 60 years). I love the old barlows. Don't
know why the new ones are so d#@% expensive. I've moved to Kershaw flippers
and AO's for carry along with my Victorinox Deluxe Tinker.

I picked this one up for one dollar at a pawn shop last weekend. The plastic covers are so cheap looking! Actually, I trimmed the sharp edges of the plastic, and it looks a little better, now. And the bolsters aren't pinned through, but clipped on like a shell knife. I'm going to sharpen it up and see if the steel is decent. I'm amazed sometimes that even the cheapest, cheesiest looking old knives were sometimes made with the same good carbon steel as a higher priced knife. It's like they didn't know how else to make steel.

This is the only barlow I've had so far - but I sold it because I wasn't feeling the spey blade - I REALLY need to give this pattern another shot...

Ix-nay on the stud and modern liner lock. They don't meet the definition of "Traditional".

That's why I said "modern" barlow. Times change and sometimes (not often) for the better.
My first real collection was about 80 traditional barlows. Of course that was 50 years ago.

The fact that you identified it as a modern Barlow doesn't mean it belongs here. If it's got a liner lock and thumb stud it doesn't. Keep it traditional, please.

Got the African Blackwood in the mail today, my third Charlow in the past 5 weeks. I love these well made beauties and more than likely will be adding more in the future. ;)

OK. Sorry, I like traditional barlows. Still have several; Russell, IXL, Remington, Case and a couple others from
my old collection. Just trying to point out that sometimes things evolve. I consider the CRKT M4 an evolution
of the traditional barlow (for better or worse :-). I won't make the same mistake again.
