Great pictures. From the humble to the sublime.

I never used to care for Barlows. Looked unbalanced with that big front bolster. Even seeing everyone's pictures on these threads, I appreciated the quality of some of them, but it still didn't do much for me. Then I picked up this old Boker, and it's like a switch flipped. It is one of my favorites, and I'm always keeping an eye out for them now when I go to flea markets and pawn shops. I know I need to get myself a Charlow one of these days soon.

I couldn't have said it better. My experience exactly.

OK. Sorry, I like traditional barlows. Still have several; Russell, IXL, Remington, Case and a couple others from
my old collection. Just trying to point out that sometimes things evolve. I consider the CRKT M4 an evolution
of the traditional barlow (for better or worse :-). I won't make the same mistake again.

Hey Rich, if you'd like to share those traditional Barlows, we'd surely love to see them.

Beautiful CC barlow Hale Storm!!! I've always been a huge fan of CC barlows and really appreciate the finer touches that were taken advantage of in each of their knives. From their deep bolster stamps to their blade profiles, I really enjoy a nice Cripple Creek Barlow!!! Here's a couple from my own pile...

^^^^^ Wow Primble, that Case is very cool. Tell me something about it please. That's a neat variation of sawcut.

Thank you sir. I have had it for a long time. It was my first Barlow. It is a red bone straight XX, circa 1940-1964. The sawcut is faint and is not deep in the bone like some other brands. I love my new Charlows, but, the ole Case red bone holds it own for most beautiful handle. ;) Here are two individual shots of the knife:

^^^ Nice red bone XX barlow Primble! The coloration of bone from that era is untouchable, but I often wonder what those random lines and grooves are in the old Case sawbone covers??? If memory serves me correctly, Charlie brought this topic up a while back...

Thank you sir.:)

The lines are more noticeable in photos, IMO, looks pretty natural in person. I read something about it a long time ago and seems as though I have forgotten. I have never seen one from this era that did not have the lines, seems like it had to do with something they did in the production.

It's an odd trait of those old Case barlows, but for some reason I've always liked the extra character that those lines bring! Something about those XX era's, no matter the pattern, that really just have something special about them!!!

Agreed and thanks again!:)

67nick, Seeing the pics of yours makes me want another one. I've been wanting a cap lifter for a long time too now but can't seem to part with any of my current blades so I'm waiting. Thought for a moment about putting up my CC Stag for sale or trade but I guess that would be one I would regret parting with. So many knives, so little money! :D

It is interesting that the same knifemaker responsible for making those CC barlows is also making the TCs!
I have always liked those Cripple Creeks (partly because CC are my initials). Thanks for showing them! Nice Case up there also!

Here's an old Case XX that's similar to Primble's. This one also has the odd lines and grooves that the old Case barlows were made with...

Those CC's are stunning! I used to have one in stag a few years back. Didn't like the way the slabs matched and sold it, but the FF was excellent otherwise. I particularly like how the spearpoints were executed at the tip.

Anyone know if there's a name for the sort of zig-zag finish to the long pulls on these? I don't feel like I see it very often.
