Hi. I can't find the info. on the basic 8 or basic 8 le contruction.... I recall seeing a picture of the basic models and they don't have a full tang.. more of a rat tail tang :)

What is the difference between the basic 8 and the basic 8 le?

Are the basics the only model with the "rat tail" tang?

Are all other Busse knives full tang?

I'm really close to buying a basic 8, but want full tang INFI for the most possible beast of a blade :)

Thanks for help!

The basic 8 tang is pretty beefy. Not really a rat tail.

Thanks for that pic. So chances of that ever being an issue are next to none I assume?

8-10in blade length, any other Busse I should consider that aren't over $600?

no issues at all. The transition is full radius and the HT solves any potential stress riser issues. The basics are as tough as the regular exposed tang series

here is a series of video clips of the destruction test of a Basic 9. Knives don't get and don't need to be tougher

Are you stuck on INFI? Even if you are, unless you are committed to the Basics, or the Res-C, you should watch the exchange for a bit. I have seen a couple of occasions, I'm almost positive, where NMSFNO's have come up on the Exchange, albeit briefly, for just under $600.

I am stuck on have ONE big chunk of INFI... big being 8in or greater. I have several choppers in various steels but none in INFI...

And the basics were something I saw 12-15yrs ago and always wanted one but decided to go another route.. I've had small INFI and big SR101...

I'll keep an eye out and hope for the best!

Thanks again for the pic and video too!

Basic 9 for the win. Users can be had for ~$400, when they show up.

HHFSH is a great knife in your price range. NMSFNO is every similar, I simply prefer the Fusion handle.

Basic 8 LE is a great blade, goes in my hunting pack, light but effective.

and of course the Basic 10. There is virtually no dimensional difference between the B10 and the B9. 1/4" diff in length

I find the balance is the difference between 9 and 10. Give me an 8 or 9 over 10. Might as well go for the best and get a Basic 11

WAIT! That sounds difficult... I know about the BB13s, but not the Hucks...

Time to spend more time checking the Busse sub forum...

NMFSH. If I was forced to choose only one of my Busse blades, that might very likely be my choice. And I'm not just saying that because I have one for sale that's not too far out of your price range (but includes sheath).

Check out the thread "Steel Hearts are Bloody Awesome!!!" and you'll see what I'm saying.

ETA - You might be able to find a FBM for that price too, which is also not a bad choice (my brother chose that over his NMFSH).

Also, ALL of the Res-C handles in the Busse and 'Kin world have a cross-section like the one posted above. No worries!!

Hmmmm well I am after what will be my single piece of INFI to use. And SpyderPhreak, I was about to pull the trigger on your Basic8le, but wanted to know about the tang before I did.. then it was SPF... me = sad.

Thanks for the link read too!

Good luck with your search. It is NOT an easy one!!! I don't think a single HOG here would tell you otherwise. We're all constantly searching for "The One, The Precious". ;) :D

If you're looking for a full tang Busse beast, I would recommend TG or SHe2 (or FBM if you want to move up in price). Of all the Busses I own, those are the tanks. I have a B8 and it is one of my favs, but compared to those, its not beastly. If you like the res-c handle and can get away from INFI, might I suggest SR-77. Because the SOD is a certified res-c beast.

Another NMFSH just posted (not mine :foot:) that would be worth a look.
