Basic 8s... tang types...

Wasn't crazy about the B10 LE. Maybe too neutral for my taste? I liked the Satin Battle Rat better.

Have finally come back to a B9 (4th times a charm!) and all is good!

It's funny, I remember saying that when the B9 came out in the late 90's. I got one and did not like the feel of it. Then later on I realized how good it felt later on. I think the B10 is the same thing. The B10 will go down as one of the nicest large basics later on as it has a much more neutral balance than the others. The B8 just looks unbalanced to me with a handle and choil nearly as long as the cutting edge. And I'd rather have that extra inch and a half of blade length. I agree with your battle rat comment though but as for design I still feel the dogfather's blade design is the best, with a wide blade.

here is a good place to add this comparison pic. to bad no B8

From someone who has never handled a B9 how's it for you to choke up with that small choil and over the large ricasso / lanyard hole? Looks like it would be uncomfortable but that's just appearances.

The choil on the B9 is useless. So you would be right. B9's came with two variations in choil size. The larger one fit your finger better but if you wore winter gloves it would slice through.

It is. The qualities you like in the B10 I find off putting. I like the blade forward feel of the 8 & 9, and love the blade heavy feel of the 11. I find they are better choppers for me on wood- which is my main use for a blade that size, followed by hitting tent stakes in. Love a SBR, and DFLE. My pack has had a B11 and CABS for few years now, and have not found blades I want to replace them with. Everybody tastes/use varies. NMSFNO felt great in my living room...

I will totally agree that the B11 is the king of the basics in a chopoff. OF course the B13 will change that.

There are many that agree with your opinion. For me on a knife with a blade length of 9 to 11 inches I prefer a choil because I can choke up and use the edge for very fine work, which there is no way you can with a non choil blade. At least no where near as well. I also prefer the choil because it is a space between the handle and the edge that I do not have to worry about trying to sharpen. When you have to sharpen close to the handle it is easy to nick the handle material if you are not careful or in a hurry.

Guys is the Basic 11 quater inch thick or 3/16? I've wanted to try one out for a long time but never did as i bought a SYKCO 1311instead but that just didn't do it for me.

I might be wrong but i think i remember seeing in a youtube vid or reading that the tang in the handle is 1/4 but then the blade goes to 3/16 at the ricasso. Is this true?

Hmmmm well I am after what will be my single piece of INFI to use. And SpyderPhreak, I was about to pull the trigger on your Basic8le, but wanted to know about the tang before I did.. then it was SPF... me = sad.

Thanks for the link read too!

Just to point out, there are several large pieces of INFI (satin, no less) sitting on the exchange right now that fit the bill just about perfectly for what you're looking for. I can't believe one of them is still available, and that another has been sitting there as long as it has... PM me if you want specifics.

Sort of. My B11 spine measures just over 6.7mm at the ricasso, then necks down to about 5.7mm immediately in front, but it then gets fatter again until it gets very near to 6.7mm again out close to where the sweep up to the tip starts. A bi-directional distal taper. Fairly complicated for what looks like a super simple design. I expect the others are similar.
