Basic 8s... tang types...

Good luck with your search. It is NOT an easy one!!! I don't think a single HOG here would tell you otherwise. We're all constantly searching for "The One, The Precious". ;) :D

I'm still looking..... Although.... I've got a KZII on the way.... It'll be a nice project.

So let me tell you the quick story of my search for the grail. My words of lack of wisdom of my journey of the last 20 plus years 18 of those on this forum and the old forum. Here is the truth: You don't know you have the grail until you have gotten rid of it, thus you will always search for it. It is a never ending search. I look back at the nearly 80 plus Battle mistresses I have had and I see several in there that could have been and probably were the grail. Yet off they went. I know somewhere in my current collection is a grail or two. I just need to take off the binoculars that see far to see what is next to me.

The moral is be happy with what you got

1311 has a barbed tang, I would also wager the TRASH-2 has it too. Basically it seems they added it to the 3/16" thick Basic (Large) handles to help keep it secured.

Dan Busse told me that they did the barbed tang to keep the handle secure; really helps when chopping.;)

HEre is the Tang of a Basic 9 vs the tang of a CS Trailmaster. The B9 has the radiused transitions

I find the balance is the difference between 9 and 10. Give me an 8 or 9 over 10. Might as well go for the best and get a Basic 11

I had to hold them both at the same time to see how different the feel is. I just did this. So dimensionally the B10 is 1/4" longer and about 1/16" wider. Yet the balance of the B9 is more front heavy. The B10 definitely feels a little more nimble n the hand. I actually prefer the feel of the B10 more. But the difference is so small that if you did not hold them both at the same moment, you would not know the difference.

But the wackiest of all basic handled knives is definitely the dogfather. I have never seen a thru hardenned knife bend as far as the dogfather, ever!!!! Just insanity

Well, I do not remember it breaking. They went to the floor with that bar. But I assume It had to break at some point

They should have called it the Scapyard Redonculous. That truly is a sign of how incredible the Busse HT is.

The Basic 8 would be the biggest I would go without a choil

Wasn't crazy about the B10 LE. Maybe too neutral for my taste? I liked the Satin Battle Rat better.

Have finally come back to a B9 (4th times a charm!) and all is good!
