The powder metallurgy process allows more sophisticated steels to be produced. The grain structure is finer and more uniform. In ZDP-189 this allows the Chrome to be boosted 20%and the Carbon to 3%. The resulting blade can be hardened to 67 Rc. In CPM D-2 the free Chrome is increased enough to make the alloy stainless. In the S30/60/90V series the PM process allows the addition of 3%,6%, and 9% Vanadium respectively. By conventional smelting the Vanadium content can't go above 2%. A fine uniform grain structure that is loaded with lots of various carbides is a recipe for great edge retention and good toughness.

Tiguy, This is precisely why I think the CPM steels are stronger than tool steels . ie. BG-42, 440C, D-2, ect.. Thanks . DM

I'll stick with tool steel for strength.......powder puff steel for ease of sharpening (if I want to put up with the occasional rolled or chipped edge).

Both skyhorse and I were able to get the cabela's 110 for 69.00 the site says 79.00 and will charge you 79.00 but if you call they give it to you for 69.00. The weird thing is that I called twice and the first time the guy gave me the 79.00 dollar price I was checking for shipping charges so I didn't finalize the order. I called back 30min later and spoke with a girl who sold it to me for 69.00 she also told me they had a special and would throw in a Xtract for 19.00. I had to pass on the Xtract cuz I had to pay for overnight shipping since I'm leaving town.
