I just want to say Ethan and Jeff are some of the most awesome SOB I have ever met.

Becker and Esee are excellent companies and I want to tell you guys thanks for the
bad-ass knives....

I hope I can get a HELL YEAH on this.

Anyone??

Geez Tom, you got the whole Becker forum over here!

(Most of them live here and visit there anyway.)

;)

Hey Tom Gannon.....

At those temps the smell of the burning coating is sure to give the game away....If I remember correctly ya gotta get way higher to get it plastic....

All Best....

Hey Ethan,
Speaking of smell, I mention a smell in each video. Seems when I am pounding away, the knives are giving off a very distinct odor. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Tom

i just want to say that i came to esee because of the 5, but by way of the bk2. i struggled for weeks over which i would finally choose. in the end, i chose to get the 5 (when i can). i really liked the forum community and the way the owners are so active. the warranty helps too. ;)

after reading this thread, i'm going to have to support both companies when i get the chance. jeff (mike and shon too) and ethan, you are definitely stand up guys and run stand up companies. you all deserve any business that comes from these videos.

tag, thanks again for posting. while painful, it is very interesting. i'm anxious to see what happens in the end, although either way it goes, it's going to be hard to call only one of them a 'winner'.

I might be wrong on this but somtimes when I machine certain metals, I will get a funky smelling metal smell.
I think the metal (alway steel never stainless or aluminum) is actually ionizing the air by changing the Molecules in the metal with heat and pressure, thats all I can think of......this is just a guess

I couldnt stop laughing watching these videos. I now feel prepared the next time I want to strap ESEE and Becker knives together and have a medieval sword fight. Good times.

As for showing something that touched how I use knives the videos kind of missed it. I own both blades and really love each but I havent done true a/b side by side testing. How bout showing the group how sharp you can get each blade and how quickly from a dulled state. How about edge retention tests, rope cut tests, etc? I'm guessing those videos would cause less flamming back and forth but provide a lot more info the general group could actually use.

thats some good abuse right there. always nice to know what a knifes can take. i always try to tell people they would be surprised but i don't have as big of balls or wallet as you sir :)

I'm curious if the test would've turned out any differently if both of the blades were given a convex edge. I'm not saying that it would have or wouldn't have.......but just throwing another wrench into the idea machine here..... :)

Tom, I think what you should do though is discreetly saw nearly all the way through the Becker, then on your video just lightly tap it with the ESEE and watch it fall apart.

I read the entire way through this entire thread and absolutely busted out laughing when I read this.

Funny Shit!

Would the blade being in the vice instead of the handle delay the blade breaking as it's being held together by the vice's clamp?

Myself,I think this whole thing is rather sad in a way.Whether intended or not,it's bound to create some hard feelings in the end.I don't see any good coming from this, just my 2 cents.

Well it proves one thing. If a the Rat pack had a knife fight with the Beckerheads at the end of it the Beckerheads would have loose handles.:D

As far as rivalries go, ours is remarkably civil. Some of the stuff that gets kicked around between some of the other brands is pretty intense, but here we are all just normal people. Good times. Can't wait to see the big finish tomorrow.

In my brief time here at the forum, this is exactly what I've found to be true. Also, found two fantastic companies, each with excellent products, run by people full of integrity. Hard to find all this today. My first real knife purchase was a H.E.S.T. My 2nd and 3rd will be an ESSE 5 and a BK2.
