Battle Grade FSH rusting under scales

This is not the one with cerakote. From what I understand cerakote cannot be removed by cerakote.

Yeah I thought the acetone would wipe off some of the cerakote but that wasn't the case at all - my white rag stayed white!

I've stripped a few of the regular coated blades and never had issue with citristrip damaging micarta at all. Also, in case you've never tried it if micarta ever changes or gets dark from use or oily in my experience you can 'reset' it so it looks brand new by washing it thoroughly with dish soap and water. I've done this quite a bit with no noticeable negative effects. For this rodent trail with cerakote i was able to strip the handles with a wire brush on a dremel, with seemingly no damage- here it is in process, completely stripped, and with mineral oil. Although I'd much rather media blast it. Another tool i don't have...20231205_225240.jpg

After I blasted my blade it had that burly matte finish - if I wanted to buff it out it would have been alot more work!

threshold threshold that rodent trail turned out really nice!

I think that CitriStrip will remove Busse Factory paints but has a lot of difficulty with Cerakote. That is what I have learned here on the forums.

For those interested, this is what my arbor press looked like when I pressed the handle. Its bolted down and I used a cheater bar. If I had a bigger press I probably wouldnt have needed the extra leverage to smooth the effort out.

Thanks man! And thanks again for the trade! I never would have tried one of these, but it's turned out to be a favorite. Never noticed them before, but I really love the feel in hand and it's the closest thing to an EDC HG55 I've been able to find 🤣. It's also a much more interesting relationship to the blade for me when I've done work on it. Congrats again on the FSH, it's awesome!

Working on the blades does make it a different relationship with the knife. It's pretty fun! Now I need to figure out how to put a new edge on these larger knives.
