I just got my First Production run of the 551-1 in 20cv from BladeHQ. #978 of 1000, so they must be about all sold.

550HG with very bold "cobalt blue" machined aluminum scales from Applied Weapons Technologies. The batch that these came from was especially bold and rich. The anodizing on these is pretty amazing, really. Feels great, looks great. They take the knife to a whole other level.

I have found the hole works best for my needs, although I have several with thumb studs, my first with the hole is a Bone Collector and still one of my favorites.

I prefer the 551.I like everything about it save the hollow scales so I got a plain edge REI grip and just bought a G10 grip.I don't like the sheep's foot blade and the hole looks like an added gimmick on the grip to me.
If I wanted a hole I would buy a Paramilitary 2.Which I did!I love Spyderco knives and have a decent fistful of them.

But the original drop point 551 with the axis lock is compelling...a fantastic ergo package and excellent strength.I deploy axis locks by pulling the bar back...the hole makes little sense on the grip to me...especially since the shape of the scales means the hole is going to add to the width of the knife when it is closed.

So 551 all the way for me.

I am a fan of the thumb stud myself. However, I love the sheepsfoot blade, but not the hole. I want to buy one but always seem to talk myself out of it.
