I prefer the 550. It's a little different. There are knives in the same price range as the 551 that come with better scales and offer better value - IMHO. The 551 doesn't do much to differentiate itself from other knives, for the money. If you add better scales, it ups the ante on the price and brings in lots more competition at that price level. MAP doesn't help. Of course, MAP applies to the 550 as well...
 
I've owned the Ritter, 555HG, and just recently acquired the 551-1 with G10 and 20CV. I'm a Spydie lover, so I definitely prefer the thumbhole. Plus, that hollow grind really is a nice slicer as others have mentioned. If I could only choose one it would probably be the thumbhole version of the new G10 models, 550-1.
