The 'advertising logo' on the GEC is more of an ink stamp rather than an etch. Per MorrowJ's advice here a week or so ago, I used some metal polish (Flitz, Semichrome, etc) to polish off the logo on a new GEC toothpick/stag. Worked well. So, no need to make the logo a deciding factor on whether or not to purchase.
I'll second this, I wish it was more commonly known here. If all that jazz on the blade helps them sell knives (I wonder if it really does?), great. Let's keep our knife companies busy. For those of us who don't really like it, it comes off easy enough. A non-factor.
