If you refuse to use the FaceBook pages you're going to miss a lot of interesting stuff.

Where does this hate for FaceBook come from anyway?

Don't make sense.

Ok, where does all the "don't like" come from?

What's not to like? It's easy to use and post pictures, etc. and there are several different areas about Buck knives.

I don't like the fact that facebook can collect info on me...to much of that going on that I can not control, and then sells it to whoever pays for it.
Well, that makes sense, but I think their "collecting" just allows them to display ads they think you might like.

I don't know of any info collection that's dangerous.

I don't like it either.
It's full of misinformation and political trashposting.
There's also privacy concerns.

Also the BCCI site claims to not allow political content yet it's there, as long as it's one sided.
Not at all interested.❌

Here's what's not to like.
#1 - Data collection. You're not anonymous, no matter how hard you try. You have an IP address, which is associated with your telephone bill.
Ever wonder how if you search for something on your Google, bing, or any search engine and you're fed ads on FB for what you're searching for?
Perhaps you can justify it as convenient, but the reality is that there is enough information collected from your browser to put that ad in front of you.
Now that seems innocuous enough from the consumer side, but if I told you that I could tell you the IP address, street you live on down to the block or closer, and potentially your full name and how many people live under that roof, would you be okay with that?

What if I took that information and sold it to someone who wants to put a message in front of you that may be contrary to your religious, political, or social beliefs - still okay?

Even though you're not paying for the service, it's not free. You're paying for the service by agreeing to allow all of that tracking and data collection to take place when you sign the TOS.

What do you think that information is worth to someone advertising? And you're giving it to them for free, and allowing them to use it however they see fit.

#2 - It's not a forum for free speech. It's not a place you can be controversial, or contrary to the administration's attitude, which is fluid.

In other words, I've not forgiven them for allowing one political side and censoring the other, regardless of which side I'm on. I think it's as important to have both sides equally exposed, so that folks can absorb a variety of arguments.

I'm not some conspiracy theorist. These are facts! I spend well over 6 figures advertising my business every year. When presented to me, it's disturbing how much information and manipulation goes on.

#3 - If you pay dues, make donations, and your club points you to a "free" communication tool rather than fix their own junk and make it better... why the "h-e-double hockey stick" would I continue to pay for it??? It's like spending all day at the club because my house isn't as comfortable. I'm still paying for the house why invest somewhere else and neglect my home?

Y'all had to get me goin'...

Well said.
I agree.

-This. Also, I've got too many distractions going in my life to add one more. To each their own.

I don't know of any info collection that's dangerous.

Whats your fist name?
Last name?
Home phone number?
Address?
Political affiliation?
How many kids?
Have any guns?
What church do you go to?
What sports do you watch or attend?
What high school and college did you attend?
What's your birthday?
Do you prefer coffee or tea?
More G, PG, or R rated movies?
What car do you drive?
How many TVs in your house?

And many, many more...

And you're okay with someone knowing and selling this information or using this information to manipulate the messages you see on their service?

Seriously?

Y'all had to get me goin'...
LOL! But I bet you feel better after getting it off your chest. :)

Well, those things are mostly true, I think.........everybody is spying on us these days.

If I buy something on Amazon (which I do a lot) my FaceBook is immediately flooded with ads for that same product (which I already bought).

So they're wasting their time and money--not too smart, I'd say.

And the noisy wars on social issues? I'm a middle of the road guy in my opinions so I get annoying stuff from both sides.

But I ignore it rather than let it bother me. I'm a very old man now and the opinions of others are like water off a duck's back to me. I sincerely know that I know better and I laugh at them. :D

More important, I've never had a bad experience from all the information gathering.

But if it concerns you then you are right to avoid it. Why give yourself more stress?

But the Facebook page that features Joe Houser's stuff is a really good one.

Maybe worth a little risk.

Seriously.

It's never harmed me or anybody I know..........and there are millions of people on the Internet.

You don't think they know all that stuff about you and everybody else already?

You don't think they spy here?

I'm not in the least concerned.

Way to go, Greg. I know it's done everywhere on the internet, I just want to control and limit what I can.
I'm the same. I choose to accept the risk to some extent. I have a FB page for my business, and have a profile that has zero personal information.
I know all the data that's collected because it's packaged and sold as a tool for marketing. But it's also sold to political parties, PACs, special interest groups etc...

The issue is that people may not be aware of the potential danger.

M Meadowlark - I've never stepped on a land mine, but if I did, I'm sure it would hurt.

Just because it seems benign, doesn't mean it is...

I could come up with examples of how it can be used to manipulate the information put in front of you, and you still wouldn't care.

My wife, bless her soul... turns our mail face-down on the counter in case someone comes on our porch they won't see who we are or what our address is. I asked if I should put a padlock on our mailbox because all anyone needs to do is open the box and look. LOL

She's extreme, and I make fun of her a lot for it. She's comfortable with zero risk, but she'll holler at Alexa for just about everything....lol

The moral of the story is, you need to understand that your trust in an entity that collects and profits from collecting every single bit of data about you is absolutely not reciprocated.

But... the issue as it pertains to BCCI, is still they're neglecting their only asset, not curating the information, and the answer is "there's nothing wrong" and "we're just volunteers and don't have the time". Well... use my dues to put out the dumpster fire, or stop collecting my dues.

I haven't seen them on FaceBook yet, so maybe they're discussing options.

I'm a life member so it's not like I can stop contributing even if I thought it were a problem.

I'm enjoying the other Buck pages and will continue to do so.

Oh and FYI, land mines are noisy and if there were any on FaceBook we'd have heard some explosions.

But you do you..........that's as it should be.

what everyone else has said already is the main reasons, but....

I don't want people looking me up from my past. the good ones i still know and know how to find, without thefacebook. the rest I left them behind for a reason......yeah you can lock your profile so they can't find ya easily and whatnot, but I don't need thefacebook.

plus I dont want to see pictures of peoples food everytime they eat or pics of them everywhere they go. 99% of what is on there is super boring and I just don't care......

I don't like it either.

Ha! True story. I run marathons to raise funds for a rare genetic disorder, and our group does most of its communication on Facebook. It's a niche of a niche kind of thing. If you're into running AND are part of the small community dealing with this particular disorder, the Facebook algorithm might find you. I limit my Facebook posts exclusively to this very small interest group.

And yet... my feed is constantly filled with the craziest conspiracy theories and angry political diatribes by random people. I have a marathon coming up next month that I've barely given any updates on because it's gotten so much worse lately. I don't know how the algorithm connected my interests to those posts.
I sincerely know that I know better and I laugh at them. :D
That was excellent! I should laugh more.

I really, really appreciate the atmosphere here. We just talk about knives. Obligatory photo of a couple favorites. Either one of these could see me to the end of my days. Just fantastic, and I don't actually NEED anything else.

edit: well, maybe a 104 would be nice to have too. The 102 is pretty sweet for a small fixed, and the 303... nuts.

Yesterday, the new BCCI facebook page opened. The administrator is the new president of the BCCI. The page is called BCCI-New Buck Collectors Club. I posted on the old BCCI page and consider Tim the old president a friend. I also consider Dale the new president a friend. It really dissapoints me to see the turmoil and drama in the BCCI lately.
