I’ve been wondering if I should post something about my interaction with M mpearson for a couple of days, and I think I do.

I bought an ”unused,” “never carried“ WE Begleiter from him for $120 and it arrived in a damaged boxed with dirt and pet hair on it (see photos). After not being responsive, he gave me the option of either a partial refund of $40 or a return for $80, while accusing me that “l don't really know anything about knives. Because if you did, you wouldn't be complaining about a knife box and a cheap Kizer” (screenshot). Seemingly ethics has a price threshold with him and a $120 Kizer is not worth being ethical. Anyway, I didn’t argue with him and I asked him for the $40 partial refund he offered. That was on Saturday, and since then he never refunded me nor is he answering my messages. My $40 is not the problem here. I just want you to be careful when dealing with a dishonest man.

I've got mixed feelings about this...
The ad didn't mention that it came with a box, especially one in pristine condition;. BUT, if I was selling a knife with a damaged box I would mention it and include it in the picture.
If the condition of the box was important to you, perhaps you should have asked about it.
Pet hair? Really? Did the ad state the knife was from a pet free home?
Two suggestions:
- Don't buy secondhand knives that have been disassembled if you want a new one.
- Don't buy a knife from me...I include at least one free dog hair with every knife I sell. I usually put it under the tape during packaging; but sometimes I leave extras.

The above notwithstanding, the $40 "restocking fee" was pretty douchey.

The box is part of the knife. If I was selling an unused knife and the box was beat up and dirty, I’d mention it. Easy solution for that is to ask for pics of box from now on. I include pics of box anyway but if it’s damaged it’s worth mentioning.

The remark about “aaah for every 100 knives I sell there’s always that one customer” was a douche maneuver. He should have kept his opinion to himself and handled the problem. Transactions have two benefits: A paid seller and a happy customer. He seems to think he’s owed a smooth journey on the selling part.

The serious issue here is being promised $40 and him not paying up. That he needs to follow through on, because at this point he has $40 of YOUR money tied up and failure to pay what is promised is stealing.

That’s his answer when I asked him about the box prior to buying.

"For every 100 knives I sell personally"..."customer"..."restocking fee"

M mpearson

Let's hear from you and please explain why you should not be considered a dealer...and paying for the privilege of selling here as one.

(BTW, OP, nothing in my home is without dog hair attached...for the record. Including my wife and myself.)

I could understand being upset if it was cat hair, but dog hair? How can you be mad at that? Nothing leaves my home without dog hair LOL

Is it possible the factory box was damaged in transit? OP did mention that it arrived in damaged box, but could have been referring to factory box. Either way reflects on seller and pretty crappy, especially the 'restocking fee' BS. I understand wanting the box, but it doesn't look like the original listing was for a LNIB Kizer, with little or no condition description. Buyer beware and do your due diligence with what seems to be an emergence of crappy sellers and this trend of no G&S. I had to walk from another microtech deal today because buyer would not accept G&S and would not take responsibility for shipment after it was in carriers hands.
OP hope you get it resolved.

I have two cats and my neighbor’s dog is basically living with us. I breath and almost eat dog and cat hair everyday. My problem is that the knife had literally several spots of dirt (see photo) and full of pet hair and lint among other things. That is not how he described it. I needed an ultrasonic cleaner to clean it. Trust me, if he described the knife honestly, I would have still bought it. My problem is honesty.

BYW I am writing this, and my shirt is full of dog and cat hair 😁

It was shipped in a padded envelope and the package arrived without any damage. Also, there are tears on the inner box, and signs of removed label(s). Again, my problem is honesty and owning your mistakes. There are several snail trails on the scales, and literally dirt on it. I’ve been collecting knives for more than 20 years. This in not my first, and definitely not my last, time buying a used knife. At this stage, I cleaned the knife and I am considering the case closed. I just wanted to raise a flag about the seller, and it is up to readers to weigh their priorities. I appreciate the follow up.

Having only the OP's description, I have a really hard time believing that someone was trying to be forthright when they take a picture of one thing and send another (as with the box). I see the box as a bonus myself, but if it established as a part of the transaction it needs to be as advertised. And a 30% restocking fee certainly seems like a steep dealer scheme, not your run-of-the-mill member.

I'm curious as to M mpearson 's response.

The seller should keep his word, and promptly refund the $40. The beat up condition of the box should have been disclosed.
Packing up knives in a garage like I do, makes it quite easy for a variety of debris to get mixed in with the packaging material. It’s always better when we as sellers try and minimize that issue.

Can of compressed air and maybe a lysol wipe and you're good. Wouldn't have behooved the seller to do it himself but it isnt something I'd be posting a "bad" thread for. Seller should partial refund or full refund, not this restocking fee crap though.

The undisclosed 33%+ restock fee is crap. :poop: Deal is not complete until the receiver is satisfied.

If the Mar 29 photo is from the seller, then it is definitely misleading at the minimum, as that box does not in any way represent the received package photo. I would say "not the same stuff"
