I read the Nov. 07 issue of OUTSIDE magazine at the barber shop today. It had an "in depth" article on Bear and Man vs. Wild. Check it out.

no link? pssssssssssss

I dont want to go out and buy a magazine, how about give us the gist of what he said?

How am I supposed to read the article? I've never even seen an 'Outside' magazine. I guess I'll have to see if they have the article online, if they have a website that is.

I'll have to grab a copy from the library. I'm certainly not going to encourage putting any $$ into his pocket. I'll check the mag's copyright blurb and see if there's any limit on what one can quote (with due credit of course...)
IIRC, Outside has great photos and a lot of them are submitted by readers. I haven't picked up a copy in a long time though.

man vs wild should have an online poll allowing the fans to vote for what shocking thing grylls eats next. God bless the tom green of discovery channel.

Hard to take Bear more seriously about his show when half the show was staged.
He did not stay overnight all the time, he had other people prepare his 'in the field' creations then provide him specific instructions on how to reassemble them and left the parts in specific places to be 'found', etc. etc.

I have no doubt that he can do most of what he shows. But, he misrepresented his series until it was exposed and now contains all the entertainment disclaimers.

I'll still watch his show and look forward to it. He has done some crazy stuff on film that leave a lot of people shaking their heads if it were a real survival situation. I will view the whole show as instructional entertainment. I really hope he goes into more detail on his equipment selection and actually identifies the knives and so forth.

No luck on the article...turns out it was 'Outpost' they had. Also a good read read but it's a Canadian mag which doesn't help most of you. An article by Les about the Amazon trip - if you've seen the ep there's not much new but he talks more about the who's who and the village life. More National Geographic than Survivorman, but that explains the mag in general as well. There's also a cool trek through the Panamanian river valley that the conquistadors used to get the Inca gold to the coast, the poaching situation, etc.

Apparently in India, a conservation officer is using cell phones with 'prey' ring tones to lure leopards into traps for relocation !

I know it's not really on topic for a Bare Girlz thread, but that's just because it deals with being outside ! Anyway, I also read a bit about the 'guinea worm' so I'm off to google it...

I guess this qualifies Bear to be in one of those TV commercials where they say, "Well, I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night!"
