Bear Grylls custom design.

The show is entertaining, and for a moment there I thought he might know some stuff no matter how extreme he acts. That was my thoughts until late one night while channel surfing I caught a glimpse of Oprah where he was being interviewed. Oprah would show a clip of the show then ask him a simple question, he would repeat most of the information that was just mentioned in the clip (no new info)and (to what seemed like to me) B.S'ed he way to the next question. I seemed as though he really did'nt know anything, at least not without his crew, survival expert and a script. Now I think he is more a stunt man than a survival expert. But the show is entertaining, watching it makes me want to go out and do normal things like hiking or just practicing with my firesteel.

He pisses me off for 3 reasons...

1.) he is -really- inexperienced and yet still thinks he can teach other people "survival skills". (examples; climbing a waterfall, jumping into a river for no reason, eating a dead zebra that he "found" lying around, trying to ride "wild" horses, surprised that he got diarrhea after drinking non boiled stream water... and the list goes on and on...)

2.) He drank Elephant poo :jerkit: ... and didn't bother to wash it off for hours of filming.

and,

3.) Thinks he's a great enough wilderness skills expert to sell a knife for $700.00

Well actually... there are probably twenty to thirty other reasons, but you guys get the point. :D

I always find it funny when some redneck says an ex-SAS man is inexperienced:D

Personally, I like the Raven's design better!

The knife is a marketing tool and nothing more. I doubt very highly that many, if any, are sold. By bringing you (and most others reading this thread) to their site to see their other models, it's done its job.

Edward Grylls is a tool.

Just a way to make a buck off Bear's name. The knife is nice, but it ain't that nice. And Bear doesn't even use it.

It takes 1 year to finish SAS school, Edwards (Bear) spent nearly 2 years recovering from a broken neck. He only served for 3 years total. Doesn't leave much time for accumulating Experience dos it.

Maybe he ought not to tout that 'experience' as a credential. Also, if you check his blog you'll find that in the photo he's wearing a mess jacket with wings and braid but no regimental insignia. Sounds to me like a guy trying to capitalize on experience he doesn't have...

For that $700 you could have something really good made in America with a "LIFETIME" guarantee I bet. Maybe a couple of somethings.

I can also think of knifemaker signatures that will appreciate in value long after Bear Grylls is consigned to the hole he's trying to wind up in with some of his antics.

To each his own I guess, I'm sure they'll sell a few.

I agree the show is a bit hokey but this guy would probably do better than most of us in the wild.

He is the youngest Brit to climb Mount Everest. 3 years British Armed Forces, plus 2 in SAS 21, a recon battalion.

The first time I saw this guy was in "Escape to the Legion". He joined 11 other Brits for a month of Foreign Legion basic training in Morocco. It looked like hell on earth.

The show is ok, but I wish it was more "how" to than "hey watch this" or "look what I can do".

It has made me appreciate Survivorman.

350 GBP for this knife? PLEASE! Is it worth that much money? Well, to me there is one very simple yet fool-proof way to find out: run a search to see what kind of knife can someone gets in the U.S. for half this price (let alone THIS price) and compare those knives with the knife in quest here.

I don't care if a knife is made of RWL or what have you. All I care, especially in a knife that is supposed to see REAL use in the wild, is performance. Honestly I doubt if this knife can outperform a Busse or other knives of highly reputable brands (Fallkiven, CRK, etc.) let alone quality handmade knives costing half as much.

Hey Guys...

All I can say is Good Luck..

That's a TON of money for that knife...
I'd rather have a Busse and Fallkniven and a Box of Moras personally..

You hit the nail on the head, 12Bravo. I sometimes look up and (try to) re-read sci fi I read as a boy and some of it's abysmal, but I still benefited from becoming interested in science and technology.

I quit watching when I noticed the "wild" horse had shoes on.

Record it on dvr and play it in slow motion and you can clearly see them.

Oh, there's plenty of evidence that he stages scenes... Many claim to be able to see him wearing a flotation vest in the "running the rapids" scene of the Rocky Mountain ep (when he jumps in a swift river to 'escape' a grizzly).

It's still better than most of what's on TV, though.

Remember the dangerous rope bridge that could give out any second? You could clearly see new rope mixed in with the old. Not to mention the fact that his camera crew was already across.

Seriously, isn't he just gonna smash a rock on that anyways?
Everytime I watch this show, no matter what episode, I always think of him beating on that poor knife. He was surrounded by standing and downed trees and could have easily made a baton.

Let me put it this way, I could get a Fallkniven A2, A1, F1, WM1 and U2 for that price and still have money left over for booze... lotsa' booze...
That could be interesting. "Alright, everybody look out, I'm gonna juggle 'em." :D

Hey Guys...

I haven't ever seen the show,, but it sounds like I've already heard enough..

Anyone the promotes the pounding of a rock onto what is suppose to be his survival blade is out of touch of reality, and in my opinion Full of Shite...

Anyone know what that strange looking cutout is on the side of the handle of that knife ??
Like and "L" shaped ??

Strange...

You just hit the nail on the head with the last 5 words.

I don't know anything about the SAS, but if that bozo, (Oh, I'm sorry, I meant Bear Boy) can play that role knowing anything about survival, and keep a straight face, he is one damn fine actor. :jerkit:

Hey Pinetree: I wouldn't be surprised if his other exploits were staged as well, including his military experience. I don't know quite how to put it, but something doesn't quite feel right about his demeaner/character/personality for someone with his resume'. He doesn't have that feel about him. Ain't no way I'd follow him into the valley...no matter how cool a knife he's got.

BTW, that's one fine lookin' city knife, but I'd choose something a bit more practical for survival. (My kit has a 12" sawback Ontario machete and a Mission MPS.)

I'm guessing it's a depression for the thumb

I'd buy that for a dollar (and that's it!)
