Bear Grylls hilarity tonight...

Does anyone know who made that knife he had? Its the second one I've seen him carry.

Here is a link to that knife you inquired about:

http://www.bayleyknife.com/bear.htm

It's nice looking and all, but there are several threads here that talk about "if it's worth it or not"

Personally I believe there are better knives for the money out there from more respected companies or even custom makers.

:confused:Let me get this straight. Bear Grylls gets stung at the same time the Illustrious Foron (Brian) has a thread about running from and being stung by hornets.
Hmmmm. Has anybody ever seen Brian and Bear at the same time?;)

Wow...all of Bayley's knives look like overpriced crap...do they supply for Mantis?

HA! At least I had the brains to run! No honey with these little turds! :D

That guy is to much for me. I would rather watch bread mould than watch him.:barf:

The model with serrations looks useless to me, but I do like the older design.
I wouldn't call these knives overpriced. For europeans it doesn't cost more than the average cord wrapped tiger striped piece of S30V in a nylon sheath...

Edit: Of course the price is too high for a real user. But compared to other knives on the market, this one isn't even the most expensive. Well, you know how the market works...

I'd agree with both those points DocArnie and These_Nutz .

I think it is easy to draw a premature conclusion because of the association with disliked TV personality.

Still, when a company resorts to the mall-ninja Thundercats Ho cheesy animal names like; Wolf, Rat, Dog, Shark, Hog, Bumble Bee, Golden Eagle, Bear part, Stingray, or Leopard, it's a racing certainty that someone is trying to market something to you well beyond its worth. Look at the below:

wolf_1024.jpg

It looks like it was spawned in the mind of a child, drawn by a child, and designed to sell to a child. x39's "It's kind of like watching scenarios of adult life as I imagined it would be when I was eleven or twelve years old." fits rather well. It seems all about childhood imagery and an adventure story. By the power of Greyskull...

I draw the association not because of that idiot Bear, but because they look like something from a gas station display case and cost 350pound. Last time I was in London, the dollar = 1.7 pound, so that would have been a $595 knife. No blade is worth that, save antiques of some high caliber.

We'll agree to differ on the knife itself, I think it appears a very functional little package, but I'll agree with the rest.

That's how come I got to agree with DocArnie and These_Nutz all at once even though they seem to be saying opposite things. Yes, it is truly expensive for what it is, and it if it wasn't for some nifty marketing it couldn't command that. Yeah, well overpriced and marketing appeal to authority driven. [I hate marketing, and love to rootle through the techniques. Current favourite in the Emporer's New Clothes line up is the rather dandy and somewhat sneaky technique of calling a finished knife “double cut”, and charging extra. You don't need genius if you can keep a poker face].

Still, in agreement with Arnie, I don't think it's conspicuously overpriced, as in many others get away with some devilish marketing too. I don't think it is overpriced in the same way as when say Strider went all damascus, and a whole raft of quite high dollar knifemakers in that area all looked at the price and yelled WTF.
