Bear Grylls Posts go here!

Bear has been in the British Special forces and the Foreign Legion. Imagine the training he's had. Him sneaking up on the rabbit made me picture him sneaking up with a rifle and taking out a few guys.
Anyone that's been in the Legion is going to be a little crazy, plus imagine the confidence he has from Special Forces and the Legion.
That said, Les Stroud is more realistic and doesn't feel like and episode of survivor. I may be able to use some of Les's tips, since I'm not a mountain goat or former military!

I can't believe he thumped a bunny and didn't bother making a lucky survival rabbits foot. He's lucky he made it out of there alive without one! :D

Yes, I agree. Bear gets through a lot of cahllenges using brute force, stamina and endurance. He doesn't look at a mountain as something to go around, he looks at it like something to cross, and then kick sand in it's face and mock.

Bear is just an actor im sure hes never been anywhere near the sas

the guy they used for the "I shouldnt be alive" show where they showd you how to survive the instance. Les has done one i think. the guy that did the jungle one was a scary dude. he was actually in the special forces and knew what he was doing he explained a ton about survival in the jungle

in fact its on right now les is doing the cold weather one.

Another difference between the two is, Les always looks like he's about to cry when he kills something to eat. Bear didn't seem to hesitate for a second.

Subaru you are wrong. Why don't you guys spend a few minutes checking your "facts" before you spout off? Bear spent 3 years with 21 SAS. He is the youngest Brit to have climbed Mt Everest, (heard of it Subaru?), at age 23. He has other world records too. He is a top selling author and one of the world's most in demand motivational speakers. Look it up!

OK, we've all seen the commercials for the next episode... and I want to be the first to say, "No way in HELL am I drinkin' elephant poop!!"

It is a great show. Long as people aren't foolish enough to climb a waterfall or something unless they have to, enjoy the show, learn a lot of stuff, and look at the scenery of the world.

People who doubt Grylls' credentials are a bit odd. 3 years SAS, a few years later climbed Everest, crossed the North Atlantic. Is Grylls a bit crazy? Sure. He takes a lot of risks, and I respect that. As long as it's not an arrogant risk, nothing wrong with it.

Some of the crazy stunts are stuff only experienced people should try in normal situations, and normal people might try in extreme situations i.e. life or death.

You'll notice Grylls say "I'm an experienced climber, and I'm going to show you how to do this" many times. Also, Grylls states that there would be safer ways that would take maybe too long due to weather or such. There are plenty of warnings for the crazy stuff, most of the show is great advice for the average survival situation.

People are responsible for their actions. If you can't stop yourself from climbing waterfalls because you saw it on tv, I don't believe that any person should be responsible for your actions other than yourself.

You know, I've never met him, and wasn't even aware that he existed until you fellows began talking about him here. Since then, I've been looking for reliable biographical info on him without a lot of luck. So far, I find bits and pieces, mostly PR stuff from publishers and networks. Born in 1974, he first joined the British army, then later the SAS. While he was studying engineering in college? After completing the six week SAS survival course, he was made instructor? He fractured three vertabrae skydiving in South Africa, then after an apparently brief recovery and while still in the SAS, made two record ascents all by age 23. Led an "unassisted" expedition in a rigid inflatable to the pole for which he received an honorary comission in the Royal Navy, set a record for high altitude formal dining while suspended from a hot air baloon at 25,000 feet, saluted the queen and parachuted to earth. He lives on a houseboat, and has two small children. The Foriegn Legion thing was a film he made about their training methods. He wasn't a member.

Interesting. What did I miss? Yes, he is a karate black belt.

Codger, he really did enlist in the foreign legion with some other guys in order to get the real scoop.

So what made Bear want to take a band of merry men into the desert to join the Foreign Legion? Nobody really knows much about the Legion, so Bear thought it would be an interesting challenge to lift the lid on this mysterious outfit by showing the training regime. And what better way to do this than by signing up himself.

I'm a little dismayed at some of the cynicism I'm seeing here. Lighten up guys, even if Bear and Les are total fakes, it's still good fun TV. :)
