Bear Grylls Q & A

Know what else makes good tv? Survivor, who wants to marry a millionaire, so you think you can dance?, all get great ratings. I lump man vs. wild in with those highly successful shows.
Nice quote btw, Nemoaz!

He'd just finished getting a feed off a skunk. He didn't seem to like that very much despite disposing of the rear end, and cooking it up. I've not tried it, but I don't imagine that tastes so great either.

That sounds like something Granny would cook on The Beverly Hillbillies.:barf:

It is amazing though what people will do to make money and even more so whilst staying at the best hotels!

My brother used to occasionally say that he was hungry enough to eat the butt out off a skunk. Understand that we are hillbillies from West Virginia, but I think it was just a saying.

Why would you sit inside and watch a show about survival for an hour when you could be out actually practicing skills for an hour.
Its the difference between book smarts and street smarts.

Well, for myself anyway, it is because I AM BLOODY OLD! It is nice to sit inside once in a while and watch some tube, but still have the program appeal to your hobbies and taste. Your question, which may have initially been meant as rhetorical, is like asking a seven year old, "why watch cartoons on TV instead of drawing your own?".

After watching his show, I intend on going into a glacial fissure on my vacation to the Artic. Those things are beautiful. I've never seen that shade of blue. I'm not planning on using a safety rope though. I'm in it for the adrenaline rush. Just spikes on my boots and icepick hammers.

I actually think that "So You Think You Can Dance" is the only show that doesn't belong in that list.

Unlike the others, it actually involves truly talented people, involved in VERY difficult artistic and physical challenges. I was very apprehensive when I first heard about it, since I lumped it with the rest of the shows you mentioned, but once I watched a couple of episodes, I realized that it was actually quite a good show.

On the other hand, "Bear Grylls" = (Survivor) x (Fear Factor). It's fake, it's annoying, and it involves a man showing off in the woods, while his team hunts for his "food", or builds him a raft... and then going to a hotel at the end of the day, just to complain of a "chilly night in the forest" the day after.

I have seen him jump into rapids not knowing the depth (a very good chance of death for anyone who tries it), and jump into water without a fire in sub-freezing temperatures (almost certain death for anyone who tries it). I just can't take him seriously... Maybe if he drank some more pee, or ate some more bugs...

Quite right, The show is excellent. I love the show. He has alot of class. You can't always do things you want. so you can watch it on tv.
