Bear is no more. At least on discovery. Boo hoo. But that doesn't mean we can't take his legacy and use it for good. So lets have a contest. You don't need to be a beckerhead to enter but you can only use Becker knives.

Rules:

Survive. Overnight. With your edc kit and your Becker. 24 hours. You can take whatever it is you would take on a day hike. Water bottle, purification system, a pack of ramen or can of soup or energy bar, firesteel matches or lighter, tinder, cord, etc.

Since in a real situation you wouldn't know how long until rescue I need to see some pics or a video (preferred) of your preparations for the possible long haul. I must see a shelter (build it or find it),
a water source,
a food source (edible plants you find or a trap you make (it doesn't need to catch anything since that may be illegal in your area but needs to be operational)),
fire,
and ingenuity (using items you find and scavenge to your advantage and using your head and bear always went over the top on ingenuity even recklessly)
And time stamps in pics or video. Put your watch or phone in a shot.

Now here is the kicker. It doesn't have to be in the woods. It can be anywhere since you never know when you will need to survive. Set up camp in your car, in your backyard, on the roof I don't care. But you gotta live there for 24 hours ALONE and I've gotta see what's mentioned above.

You can use any Becker knife SMALLER than the bk10. 5.5 inches or less and any gear you take with you on a short hike. School sized backpack or smaller.

The prize is up to the winner and the choices are : one of the Becker shorts even the le if they are still availabr, the machax even the le if its still available, the bk5,

This will run for 1 month from today. Winner will be chosen by me and is based on how awesome your entry is. Now get out there and drink your own urine.

I am so in!
Edit: Here's my entry, no youtube video though, would have taken me forever just to upload it. Before you read any of it, please note that my parent's changed plans on me and made me think we were leaving for another camp out at 2:00 pm.... Needless to say that didn't work with my 24 hour challenge, and then again when it was time to leave for the other camp out and no one else had anything packed... If you feel this entry is insufficient because I missed almost 6 hours of it then disregard it as an entry, just look at the pictures.

Here is my pack for my 5 mile hike that I wound up getting lost on, there are two items not picture because they were stuck in the bottom of my pack, those items are a small folding shovel and duct tape. While it's not as impressive as OLJ's it's what I could get away with because my parent's are slightly over protective.

Time of departure: 3:49 PM

My shelter, made of a couple garbage bags, pocket change, paracord and a stick that I cut down.

My solar still, granted it didn't get me very much water because it's small and the air is already soaked, I got enough to drink.

Lunch: Rum-Rasin ham from Easter dinner and colby jack/white american cheese on white bread, cooked in the foil courtesy of the Florida sun.

Helga tried kissing me good night, thank god she missed:

Sitting by the fire, it dropped to 64 degrees according to my Mom, but let me tell you right now, I could see my breath so it was way below 64, that and the fact that I sounded like a chain saw....

Breakfast at around 6 according to my watch.

Apache Foot Trap before covering. (Yes, I know, it's horrible, but all I could get a hold of was palmetto stems and beyond 2 inches it's solid clay.)

After covering:

Snack and a book while the sun rises:

i am tentatively in, assuning i can find 24 hours of time to myself ;)

I am so in! Are duplicate entries allowed? (Duplicate meaning one entry survival shelter set of pics for 2 contests.)

Yeh if you use the shelter again. Then we will classify that under finding a shelter

My Entire life is up in the air for the next 4 weeks, but I just might give this a shot, depending on where my wife and I land for the summer.

Sounds like it could be lots of fun :).

Hmm tempting but I think I'm in the same boat as bladite. But I will definitely subscribe to the thread.

subscribed and hopefully I can Jump on this soon...with a family, it's hard to get away that long BUT, my wife is taking the girls to the beach for a few days during spring break so that will be my best chance!

I did my 24 hour challenge last night. The low was 34F and I was pretty chilly at times. I could have stayed next to the fire, but where is the challenge in that? Food was of little importance, I should have packed more insulating layers into the food space. Combined; my 2 pouches are smaller than a kids backpack. I took My Bk-11, and my Turley. I didnt use either very much, but the BK-11 stayed on my neck almost the entire time. I used a Bacho hand saw for almost everything.
Thanks for the challenge/contest. It was an eye opener. Some of the video didnt turn out, but there is an old camper on the property. I would have used that in the long term, I would have had to chase out the squirrels first though.

Thanks Clich

Oh, I'm soooo in. thanks so much for the contest Clichenwalnut, you are the coolest dude alive.

Besides Trade, he's a bit cooler.

:D

This is gonna be so cool. Even if I can't find the time, I'm looking forward to others' entries.

Dang it. I have been wanting a Becker for a long time but have not had the extra mula to buy one. Now you have a contest to win a Becker but I can't join in based on the fact that I was waiting to get a BK16 when they finally come out. Argg, now what? I guess I could buy a BK2 to enter the contest and not buy food for our child. The wife probably wouldn't like that though.

You will now send me an e-mail. I think I may be able to help you with your needs.
